So I got a gift certificate from all the lawyers around christmas for the Maximus Salon. I went there once last christmas b/c they gave me a GC then also, and I had my hair and makeup done for something. I totally hated it.
I am just going to sort of use the GC. I just wanted to do some lowlights and get a cut. On the site it says 'highlights- price upon request' I figured, okay how much could it possibly be.
They just told me it was $175!!!! That is how much my freaking GC is for. I am sory of pissed off that it's so expensive.
Anyway, I am going to do it and see how it comes out. I just wanted to know how much should I tip each person? color and cut??? I don't go regularly, and like I said last time was over a year ago.

good question. I just made an appointment to get my hair dyed and cut next week. I don't think I'm going to cut off that much. I've been dying my hair from the box and I just can't seem to get it right. So i've decided that i'll get it done professionaly a few times a year to treat myself!

yeah the $175 is about right, you can find some places a bit less and then theres some places who charge more but seems average.
Is the same person cutting and dying your hair? or separate ppl?
I would tip around $20 maybe $30, i always determine at the end and how i was treated, and how much i like it

WOW. Is that for a full head, half head, crown??? If it's for a full head, just get half! I get half all the time and it brightens your hair up enough. (My girl charges $40 for a half though ..... )

I think $175 is OUTRAGEOUS for LI. For the city,, maybe it's right. But that's crazyyyyy in my mind. Like I said, Sara, my girl is $40 for a half, $80 for a full. $20 haircut. She's got great prices, but I don't think most places on LI are much more than that ....

I agree- I pay $120 for full head of highlights, low-lights and cut

the city is more actually, but i was going by the prices i see here in queens. I havent gotten highlights in queens forever but i remember from years ago when i did they would charge about $150-180. The first time i got highlights was in Queens and they charged that much.
I think even in LI some places charge that much, not all but some.
Now I dont pay for it when i go to the city, not full price i just pay for what they pay themselves to buy the dye bc i know the ppl at the salone. BUT if the girl who used to always highlight my hair actually charged me, it would be $350. I wouldnt pay that but i know thats how much she charges, that includes toner and glaze though i think.
ETA: i hear about maximus all the time and are pretty popular and i guess maybe considered a more high end salon in LI? not sure but just assuming so bc of that i am gonna guess they will charge more than other LI salons
