Re: Donating Christmas toys for kids

Denise I just posted on 08 but I would love to donate and will try and help if I can.

Also you may want to look into the Salvation Army -- it is the same concept as Kmart and Giving Trees. We do it at work.

I just did my shopping last nigt for a little girl that I chose.

Thank you, I will check with them. Ive been to the salvation army in astoria to volunteer before on thanksgiving day to feed the homeless, so i am sure they probably do something like this. I will be in astoria today so I am gonna check it out.

Thank you for wanting to donate . I figure once we get more people to donate, I will do pick up locations about a week or a few days before christmas to give a little bit more time for people to get the gifts. I will then post a thread with all the info

Keep me updated. Just keep in mind, most of these donation places want the gifts no later then 15th or so. Usually 10 days or so before Christmas. I know our Salvation Army donations are being picked up on the 12th.

Re: Donating Christmas toys for kids

I know some of the local post offices participate in donating christmas presents.

Kids/ Parents send letters to the post offices letting you know what they need, sizes etc. with thier mailing addresses, so you can buy what you need and mail it to them.

Some of these are for full families, not just the kids. And you can look through the letters and pick which one you want. (some of the kids aren't as needy as other and ask for play stations, ipods etc, so you can toss that one back in the pile.)

Every person in my family gets their own letter every year. It's nice to know someone who needs it will have a wonderful holiday.

I'll go by the post office near me tomorrow, and see what they have. In case anybody wants to know specific things to get

I do the Kmart thing every year. Kids fill out a paper angel with what they want for xmas and hang it on a kmart tree. Then shoppers can go, pick an angel off the tree and purchase what the child wants. I usually buy for 2-3 kids. Once you purchase what they ask for, you bring the angel and the gift to customer service and they package it up for the child.

Ooo that sounds great, maybe we can do that and I also found the toys for tots organization that the marines do. I also know Roosevelt field mall has that big tree with the same thing and they give to Ronald mcdonald house

http://www.toysfortotsnyc.org/

I sent my toy in with my hubby this morning (he's a marine, so it was his day to do the Toys for Tots) They have lots of drop boxes throughout LI and they give teh toys to various families and churches and organizations in need of donations

Re: Donating Christmas toys for kids

I worked for a non profit (and still volunteer there) that does a toy drive to benefit the kids in the Cypress Hills area (East NY) of Brooklyn. There are many kids there living below...I mean way below the poverty line that could use warm jackets or any toys you may be willing to donate. If anyone is interested please FM me or visit www.cypresshills.org and click on the tab Cypress Hills Child Care Corp. you will see that this is a legitimate non profit.

With the economy we are having a hard time with donors, please if you can spare even $20 for a toy or send a check to the corporation (earmarked toy drive on the memo section) the children of the community would really appreciate it.!!!

Re: Donating Christmas toys for kids

GREAT IDEA!!

Every year my parents get a few letters from the post office and they sponsor those families and buy a bunch of gifts for the kids. DH and I have been doing it for the past 2 years and I actually wrapped all of my gifts today!!

Seriously it does make you feel good to think that you are helping someone else.. it makes me feel way more in the Holiday spirit!!
