Donating Christmas toys for kids

Ok I really have been wanting to do this and after watching the secret millionaire show made me want to do it more. I wanted to get alot of people into it, and everybody can donate lets say 1 toy each, or if somebody wanted to do more then of course that would be fine too. Most toys are inexpensive, so not talking about all those expensive ones. Lets say $10-30 range on average and if anybody wants to spend more thats on them.

I was thinking of probably the ronald mcdonald house, but I also know a bunch of fire stations also donate gifts to kids on christmas so maybe one of those. Does anybody know of a specific place to give to that would be good. I would be willing to set up meeting points and pick up the toys, if anybody wants to also help out and do this then I guess we can set it up and figure out a plan. And I can drop the toys off alone or if others want to also do this that would be great. I will post a thread on all the forums to get as many people involved, and then everybody can also tell their friends and family but first trying to get all the info. But have to do it quick since christmas is getting close.

Would anybody be interested or have any suggestions?

Re: Donating Christmas toys for kids

Denise, we do the Giving Tree at work and we get a list of women shelters that we can donate too. How about trying a local shelter/organization?
What we usually do is get a wish list from all the moms and children and try to get something from that list or close enough to it.

HTH.

Re: Donating Christmas toys for kids

I do the Kmart thing every year. Kids fill out a paper angel with what they want for xmas and hang it on a kmart tree. Then shoppers can go, pick an angel off the tree and purchase what the child wants. I usually buy for 2-3 kids. Once you purchase what they ask for, you bring the angel and the gift to customer service and they package it up for the child.

ahhh that would be awesome then. I am hoping we can get enough people to do it where even the mini van wont be enough. The toys for tots has a location in every borough to drop off toys. So we can do more than one drop off location, maybe pick a part of nassau for everyone to meet up and drop off their toys, then one in suffolk, queens and so on.

Re: Donating Christmas toys for kids

I just looked on the toys for tots website and they dont have LI locations but they do have alot in queens so I can always drop it off in Queens. Maybe if we get enough toys we can do toys for tots and the Ronald Mcdonald house

YAY that would be awesome and yeah does make christmas more worth it. Ok i just called Toys for tots to ask if there are specific wish lists and we buy gifts based off of that or can we just buy any gifts. They said we can buy any toys as long as its new and still in the box thats the only request.

I will start posting about this on all the forums, and keep in contact with the 2 of you whom said so far you want to help and we can figure out how we're gonna do this. We can do a few places to meet up at for pick up of toys, like I go to one spot, you go to another and another person goes to another pick up location and then we can all go the same day to drop off all the toys.

I do Toys for Tots every year Denise. They also have it in my office this year. Unfortunately FH said this year the Marines are really not working too much with Toys for Tots (FH is a Marine). And he siad it's because they aren't having enough people sign up into the military and they need to spend more time doing that. So I am donating extra gifts this year with my mom since I know The Marines are a little behind in it.

But it's such a great feeling Denise to be able to donate and know a child has a present to open on Christmas. I just wish I could give more.

I have a tree at my church that we pick stars off of...and each star is a child who comes from a needy family. I can see if there are any more stars left. The families are local.

the saddest thing about this is some kids ask for the simplest things; a winter coat, ONE coloring book, a barbie, warm pj's...

it breaks my heart

awww yeah its sad bc the children suffer, and i guess they dont get enough volunteers

I know, if i could i would give alot more now but i figure if we get a ton of people to help out that can make a huge difference, just 1 gift per person would help alot of kids out
