If you were going to a formal event such as a wedding would your dh wear a tie that matches your dress?
I don't mean have the same design as your dress but if you were wearing a green dress would you buy him a tie that had the same color green in it?

Yup. I agree. Doesn't have to be an exact match as far as color but at least in the same family.

I tend to wear black a lot so Hubby is pretty much free to wear what he wants. I have to trick him sometimes bc he is another one that thinks its 'g a y' to match

for that reason - i say no... Dave does think it's kinda silly to match like that...and i partially agree.

Me too. I don't really own any other color dress besides black so he can wear whatever color tie he wants.

i'm so gay for matching. if i wear a dress that is colored besides black--i ask DH to make sure he wears a tie that is similiar in color.
haha--some pics to prove it...
Same dress...different wedding....his wearing a blue tie.

No, Kevin has a tie that he likes and it looks good on him, if he's happy then I'm happy. Plus he's very tall and has a long torso, so a regular length tie would be too short on him. He has to buy his own clothes to make sure they fit right.

Match nope. harmonize, yes. If his tie isnt the same shade as your dress (trrying to match can look off in pics if its not the EXACT shade) go for a complimentary color-opposites on the color wheel or the same color family.
Complimentary colors: -purples and yellows -oranges and blues -red and greens
Same colro familes:
cool like blue, purple, cooler greens with blue undertones not yellow so much
warm like red, orange, pink, etc
If his suit is black, any color goes because black is a neutal. Just make sure it compliments your dress.
For a wedding I was in my dress was sky blue so DHwore a beighe suit (same as our day after) and a sorta copper brown shirt and complimenting tie and it looked great.

Re: Dressing dh for a formal event.
I definitely prefer for us to look complimentary - I've seen where someone wears, say a red dress and their hubby or SO is wearing a green patterned tie or whatever and to ME it looks kinda off.
So DH will always wear a tie that coordinates with my dress. If he doesn't have a tie that matches in color, he'll wear a neutral that works - a silverish tie if I'm wearing silver accents or a soft goldish tie if I'm wearing gold tones as an accessory - you know?

-grins- PSST Yesi..if you're complimentary you're opposite..... If you 'Go' then its just colors that go together like your color dress and his neautral tie. Neutrals go with anything.

hahaha i don't think that much about what I wear, what he wears... I;m too lazy. As long as he's not wearing hot pink, I could gve 2 sh*ts about his outfit.
(my husband also has a thing with wearing a nice jacket and JEANS... Mind you, his GOOD jeans.. but jeans nonetheless... YES.. even to weddings. We're working on it...)

Lol, I didn't mean 'complimentary' like based on the color wheel - I meant colors that look good together without clashing, but not necessarily the opposite!

I am glad to see I am not the only one who likes to match. He will be wearing the pink tie!!!!! I love when men wear pink
ETA: Just to prove it's not gay to match his tie to my dress I let him sleep with me at the end of the night
