Last night in class, my professor was telling us that we are probably about half of as bad as it could be. That things will get worse then what they are now.
It got me to thinking, if the economy s u c k s now what are some ways that you think things will take a turn for the worse?
Its a snow day so lets discuss.

Re: Economy
I see safety becoming an issue....less jobs more crime so that is scary. Schools will suffer bc if cities dont have $$$ bigger classes, less staff etc...I mean I could go on..but Im getting depressed thinking of it

Re: Economy
Companies and retail stores will continue to close up, people will continue to lose homes and jobs, house prices will drop, causing people to be upside down, etc. Ugh...its a nightmare!

Re: Economy
I worry about so many losing there jobs, look how many retail stores alone are closing. my heart sunk when I saw that man who lost his job at the hospital as well did his wife and he killed her and his children then himself, they just showed on our local news all the big companys that will be laying off if not closing, it makes me sad so many will be out of work and will have a hard time finding anything . all we can do as I said before is pray for our president and pray for our country.

Re: Economy
i actually think there is going to be a credit crisis even more so than now. i'm obsessed with suze orman (even though she scares me) and she said that the credit card companies are going to raise people's APR's which will make people even less able to pay, which will lead to more bankruptcy and then the credit card companies won't get paid at all. she actually thinks the credit card companies are scr*wing themselves by raising rates b/c in the end, nobody will be able to pay. all of it scares the crap out of me!!!!

You are so right about this. Last night in the news they were warning people to stop talking on the phone in the subway. Or even holding cell phones in their hands. Police have reported a huge increase in subway theft specially for the techy type phones.

Re: Economy
it's really scary... in the city there has already been instances where passengers have attacked bus drivers, etc. just because they need the trip to work & don't have the money to get there. the list can really go on & on when talking about how bad it can get.. I am just praying that our president really enforces his ideas of change & that this country can come together. I had a client come in last week on her lunch break saying that St. John's hospital is about to go under any day...that they have entire wings/floors shut down because the equipment is in such need of updates etc. How bad is it if we're not even going to have local hospitals to go to?? I can't think about it...just have to take it one day at a time and hope for the best. Think of the great depression and how much worse it was then...it is bad now, and we're not even on the brink of what those people went through.

Re: Economy
The reality is, to pay off your credit card debt while you can.. Otherwise when companies raise your APR.. debt is going to increas and triple,, then there will be more problems.

Re: Economy
I don't know - not EVERYONE thinks it is going to get much worse. . . maybe I'm just the optimist, but I think that things will start bouncing back toward the end of this year.
No one knows what is going to happen, we can just hope for the best.

Re: Economy
Well another problem is that once things better (hopefully by the end of this year) economist are predicting a huge rise in inflation. Once the economy is well, companies will try to make up for all that was lost.

I just don't like the idea of car companies getting bail outs and a place like St. Johns Hospital is having issues!!

A house 3 down from ours was robbed yesterday. Thankfully the people were caught, but still. There will be a lot more theft now than ever before.

Re: Economy
I just think job loss is a huge problem and results in the butterfly effect. But hopefully Obama and state leaders can come up with some solutions that will turn everything around. But it def wont happen overnight.

i do agree with you here....the hubby & i are thinking it's actually going to slowly but surely turn around. however then i have clients coming in & telling me what i posted before, and it just makes me scared of what can potentially happen. u just never know & not knowing is the scary part. i also agree with the ap in that inflation can MAJORLY rise to make up for all the loss this year.. i guess only time will tell. we have to just hope for the best & pray that Obama can get the people of this country together!

I am pretty optimistic that things will get better. I think we will see turnaround later on in the year. But unfortunately for some people they will have a difficult time getting back on their feet. After 9/11 it took the US 18 months to get out of this slump.
