Embarrassing newlywed question...BUT

Original post by glinda_goodwitch

Who here still uses protection? I'm just so scared to get pregnant now in my life, but I feel kind of silly. I'm just curious if anyone else feels this way. I do use the pill, but I'm paranoid.

me too! We double up (pill & condom) cause I am infinitely afraid of getting pregnant. Luckily so is DH so he is a-ok with the extra protection (he even jokes about adding in a third BC method!)

Same here! We double up. We want kids, but not yet. We need time to enjoy our marriage. It is our time to be selfish, b/c once kids come our lives are going to change completely.

That is not being selfish at all...do what is best for you

Neither have we and don't plan to for a while.

We're still both pretty young 23 and 26 and we want to have fun and not have to worry about much.

We are ready for a family and a mortage financially, but mentally we are enjoying eachother and just don't want the 'burden' of anything 'too much'. Hope I didn't sound like a B****, we both love children.

Re: Embarrassing newlywed question...BUT

I've had some adverse effects to the pill so I can't take it which is terrible. We aren't planning on kids at all, ever. So bc is real important to us. I'm just afraid, seeing how I reacted to the pill, about other forms of bc.

We're actually considering one of us having 'the operation'. But that's major bucks, right? I don't think insurance covers that. They should. It's cheaper for them than me having children, right??

Insurance probably wouldn't cover it unless there was a medical reason for it. I really have no idea how much those procedures run - from what I understand though, its much easier for the man to do it, and also if you change your minds in the future, it is reversible for a man.
But yes the surgery would be cheaper than having children - for both you and the ins. company.

I got PG within a few weeks after our wedding, DD is 11 weeks and we still havent used anything yet, kind of pull and pray method. I may start BC in a few weeks as soon as AF comes.

It is safer for the man to have the surgery, but it's more 'common' that the woman have it, usually immeidately after the birth of her last child.

My DH had his operation and it's been a blessing for me, not having to take the pill or worry about any mishaps. His insurance paid for it and if ever you guys decide to have kids, it's reversible for a man but not for a woman. HTH!!!!! If you want any more info, FM me.

Re: Embarrassing newlywed question...BUT

The funny thing is - we have been together for almost 3 years - and we used the same 'method' the whole time - sort of the russian roulette, pull out method.... and then all of a sudden, we are married for 3 weeks and he gets me pregnant - its weird - we both werent really ready - and I'm still not that far along where I know for sure what will happen, but hey - we are not young, it had to happen soemtime, why not now?

I'm on the pill, and that's the only protection we use. We really would like to wait about two years before the arrival of our first child, so hopefully things will go in our favor! If not, well, we're married now, so we'll welcome the pregnancy even if it comes earlier than we anticipated.

We have been using condoms from the beginning and haven't waivered and will continue to use condoms until next summer.

I can't go on the pill or the patch right now because I have gallbladder problems. Once my gallbladder is out, I can go back on the patch.

And just for the record, I tried the Nuva Ring and I HATED it!!! It kept feeling like it was going to fall out (and mind you there is no reason for that) and I gained about 12 lbs in 1 month while on it.

we havent used a condom in years! i've been on the pill for about 8 years now and that's enough for us, we're not overly paranoid. i actually want to go off the pill because i hate it but i dont want to have kids for 2 more years.

We stopped everything. Basically we are wingin' it. I took the pill for so many years I needed to stop and its been 2 almost 3 months and nothing. Which leads me to my new problem. I think we may have problems; but niether one of us are stressing it. I look at it that if it happen it happens, if it doesnt then it doesnt.

I've been on the pill even before I was married so that is my method. We can't have a a baby for atleast a year or two until we know that he has a tenure position.

Same here...All I've ever used with my DH is the pill, and (Knock on wood) no babies yet. We also feel like if it did happen accidentally it would be a blessing...

We're waiting until next summer because we just have a ton going on this year and want to get the partying out of our systems. Plus, my sister just started trying and I don't want to steal her thunder...

We're taking a one-year-anniversary-trip to Italy, so we figure I'll go off the pill right before that and try to conceive a 2nd honeymoon !!

Can I bump this please for more input from the more experienced newlyweds who are NOT TTC? is just the pill OK?

We are actively trying to prevent pregnancy. I use Nuva Ring and we use condoms as back up. I have not used the pill in years. I had been on the patch (until the blood clot scares made the press) and I had been on depo provera for years prior to the patch.
