Europe Travel Question

Europe Travel Question

I'm in the process of planning our trip to London next April and someone mentioned that we should visit Paris while we're there and I thought I'd look into it.

Does anyone know about transportation to Paris from London? Any hotels in or around Paris? How long of a ride it is? Any info would be great!

I think there is the 'Chunnel'

Which is a tunnel under the English Channel. and I believe it is a train...

I LOVE Paris. But I went on a school trip, so I don't know any hotels, sorry. You will have an amazing time though!

I took the ferry going from England to France. Check out Rick Steves, he hosts a public television travel show and only does Europe. He also writes books which I used when backpacking and they're wonderful. www.ricksteves.com

ETA: I took a bus from London to Paris and it rode on the ferry across the channel.

We were supposed to do Paris for 4 days during our HM, but had to change. We were booked on the Chunnel from London (Waterloo Station) to Paris. It was going to take 3 1/2 hours.

Thanks for all the info girls.

So the chunnel is underground? I would love to take a ferry to lessen my anxiety of travelling in closed spaces. . .However, how long does the ferry take???

And also I did a search on hotels in Paris and came across one I liked. Should I book a hotel close to the Eiffel Tower or are most of the hotels in Paris within comparable distance to the tower? I really am clueless about travelling in Europe.

Re: Europe Travel Question

The chunnel goes underground (under the english channel) I think taking the Ferry is a little longer because once you get off the ferry in Northern France, you still have to travel to Paris which is somewhat in the middle of the country.

We didn't know anything about hotels either in Paris, but had our travel agent book everything for us. We were supposed to stay at the Le Parc Sofitel (I think that's the name, it was a Sofitel hotel chain) very very cute and it was in a good location, between the Champs Elysee and the Eiffel Tower. We ended up going to Belgium instead, but are hoping to recreate what we were supposed to do on our HM for our anniversary.

I am going to look into that hotel and I am going to look into how long the ferry ride is. Thanks for the info!

I took the Chunnel. It's sorta like our Amtrak. I think it took about 3-4 hours - can't really remember!

There is a brand new Westin in Paris that is supposed to be really nice. Last time I was there I stayed at Hotel Prince de Galles

It was very nice and a great location.
