I'm sorry I don't have a pic to help show you what I mean but let me try explaining!
I have this skirt that is like a camel-color. It's mid-calf length and I only wear it in the winter b/c it's made of a loose knit material. There's a layer underneath the knit b/c you can see thru the holes - does that make sense?
Anyway, I struggle all the time with what type of top to wear with it! I don't own anything in that same knit material at all - nothing even close to it! I usually wear my knee-high dark brown boots with it, but what the heck kind of top can I wear? Any thoughts?! Again, sorry for no pic!

Re: Fashion Advice
I can picture it with a fitted sweater-- maybe a red v-neck cashmere one!
Or a cami with a little cardigan or blazer over it.

Re: Fashion Advice
what about a fitted dark brown sweater to match the boots you wear it with?
I guess b/c any sweater I own doesn't have the same open/loose knitting material so to me it doesn't look right. But, if you girls are all suggesting that, maybe I am just being silly! I do have a dark brown sweater, or I could go black and wear black boots instead. I am not sure about red with the camel color...

is it like a pencil skirt?
i like pintucked shirts with it, that you tuck into the skirt, short sleeves and has a little ruffle in the middle. Just the way scary spice is wearing in this commercial
or you can do a fitted cowl neck sweater or turtle neck. Burgundy goes nice with beige, or go with classic beige and white, or olive green maybe.

Maybe with a brown cowl neck sweater like this and you can wear a brown leather belt around the waist to match the brown boots

It's not really a pencil skirt b/c at the bottom it is not as clingy to my legs as a pencil skirt would be, if that makes sense. I know what type of shirt you mean... I think it's just the drastic mis-match in the materials that is throwing me off. A sweater I think would be better, and I do like the cowl neck look you're referring to... maybe I can make that work... thanks, Denise

Yes, the entire skirt is open and 'holey' like your sweater LOL. That's why it has a liner underneath it. Again, I am not sure about red with the camel color of the skirt, but the style of that sweater would match quite well!

is the knit sort of like this?
i wouldn't do something with the same texture - it's good to mix and match instead of having the same thing all over. i'd say go with something with a small knit that's fitted or a tank top with a button down sweater over it. i like black with camel colors too.

Yes, the knit is similar to that. Ok, well my plan is to search my closet tonight and hopefully wear a cute outfit to work tomorrow! I will let you all know what I decided and how it looks

I agree completely. Wearing the same knit in both pieces would be overwhelming. I like black and camel or a nice bright true red with camel.
Good luck!

Re: Fashion Advice
You can't go wrong with a fitted white button down (like a stretch cotton), that way you offset the 'texture' of the skirt. I def would not do sweater knit over skirt knit JMO. I'd get too hot too lol!
