One of mine is Erving Goffman he's a social scientist who analyzes the presentation of self in everyday life and interaction.

Also, I dislike physics very much with a big passion, but Einstein is definitely one my favorite theoretical geniuses!

DH sorry, it's really me ok, I digress. I WISH I could someday put a candle to the people in this thread........

Probably becuase of my own professional academic disputes (I tend to go against the grain), I have a tremendous appreciation for people who follow their data, and are not betrothed to their theories. Unfortunately many scientists, including einstein fell victim to that facet of human nature later in his career... his dislike of quantum physics prevented him from progressing with the 'grand unified theory' in the second 1/2 of his career.
For my picks...
Rutherford
is way up there for his elegant experiments / pioneering rad work... Kepler and Darwin are way up there, for standing up to common convension and dogma to boldly state their data suggests that the earth isn't the center of the universe and animals evolved from common ancestors. Darwin's work is the basis of virtually all pharmaceutical, biochem, and genetics research, so it's very dear to all biochemists hearts, and our data prove his theory on a daily basis......

sorry you asked, huh
