Feel really bad...
our little kitten baby is the sweetest cutest lovebug out there! I adore him and we have so much fun together! When he was a peanut he would wake us up at like 2:15 like clockwork because his belly was so tiny & he couldn't store enough food to get through the night.
Well, now he's about 11 months old and 12 lbs and his cute little baby habit of waking us up has turned into a pain in the neck. he has been waking us up TWICE a night for the past couple of weeks....2ish & 5ish.
DH said I cursed at him last night....he said I said 'eff this' and some other foul mouthed shenanegins. I remember feeling pissed and frustrated but I don't remember cursing like a sailor.
Anyhow...the frustrating part is that one of us will get up and feed him and he doesn't even want to be fed...he just wants to play! He bats us in the face and sits on our pillows and pounces on us til we're up!
I feel really really bad for cursing at my kitten baby like a jerk.

I don't think the kitten was offended.
What about closing your bedroom door at night? Just til he gets used to not waking you up?

We keep our cats out of the bedroom, they like to wrestle and jump on us and it's annoying. I'd try that.

Re: Feel really bad...
Your kitten sounds like my puppy ...Only difference is I never feel bad when she wakes up at 4am to eat and play and I start cursing. It sucks because I get up at 5am to go to the gym. When she wakes us up at 4 and I know shes not going to stop until I get out of bed it drives me crazy ...

DH would never allow this! He would breastfeed this cat if he could
slash is like our child! DH lets him sleep wherever he wants on the bed and then sleeps in a contorted position just so slash is comfy cozy.

He'll be a year in mid-march. He was a shelter peanut so we're not exactly sure but that's a safe guess. He'll have really good streches of days where he'll sleep the night through. He's generally a really good boy!

Re: Feel really bad...
i dont think he realizes what your saying.pandora does this.. but minutes before we each wake up.. she knows DH gets up at like 6:30, so at 6:27 she's annoying him... and she knows I get up at 8:something.. and she's on my face just before my alarm goes off... she's worse to me than him.
i 100% totally IGNORE her.. we both do. knock on wood.. she didn't even come into the bedroom lastnight/this morning.... but she was kinda mad at us for punishing her for something else.
we put her in her carrier when she's bad (jumps on counters/in the sink) and if she goes to the door while we're outside and tries to get out, then we spray her with water... she stopped for a while. then just started again.
tough love sucks.. but you're the master.. you have to let him know what he does is NOT GOOD.

Re: Feel really bad...
cats are nocturnal creatures .... they have to be trained to sleep through the night.make her very tired right before you go to bed (two words: laser pointer
) and cross your fingers.it might take a little while to train her since she's just used to waking you up at this point.

Re: Feel really bad...
When DHs childhood cat lived with us (before we put her to sleep) she would wake ME up every morning at 6:30AM to feed her breakfast. She would try so hard to be nice & sweet about it but would usually end up jumping on me in order to atcually wake me up. Many times I ended up throwing her across the bed. When she was very sick at the end & stopped doing it, I actually missed it.

Re: Feel really bad...
Our little girl is just over a year old and I LOVE her to pieces. She's cute and a cuddle cat and LOVES to sit on your lap and just watch tv. We made it so that she's not allowed in the bedroom so she doesn't wake us up. She would run around and on the pillows while we were sleeping so we gave up. She used to cry outside the door but that's kinda stopped. She'll do it now for a little bit but not as long as she used to and she'll just go to sleep outside the door. If you feed her before you go to bed she should be ok. And if she's not she'll just meow outside your door until you come out. The best thing to do is try to ignore it.Otherwise, this is GREAT practice when you have babies, however then you're getting up for 2 'feedings'.

i totally know how you feel. now that helmut is in his final weeks, i remember how he used to get up on our dresser and knock things off one by one to wake us up... and sometimes DH would open his eyes all startled in the middle of the night bc he'd feel like he couldn't breathe, and helmut would be on his chest, henning, staring him right in the eyes... ok now i'm crying at my desk.
to answer the original question... idk, we just usually put up with it.

Re: Feel really bad...
vixen used to do this when she was a kitten also. it was very frustrating, but the best thing to do was ignore it. if you don't entertain it, the kitty should stop eventually. if you wake up and the cat realizes that you're giving it attention, it'll keep coming back for more. i agree that they need to be 'trained' to sleep through the night... vixen is in such a routine now, she knows exactly when we're going to bed - she stays up for maybe 30 minutes longer, and then comes to bed and sleeps at my feet and her new habit is to sleep under the covers! wacky animal...
