Feeling depressed.......

Feeling depressed.......

So I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to lose a few pounds over the last couple of weeks.....and the scale is NOT budging. I've been going to the gym about 3 to 4 times a week, trying to watch what I eat.......and nothing. Mind you, I get my cravings every once in a wile and I splurge but I would think I would lose a pound or two! It's so frustrating.......I'm a light eater during the day---I'll only have coffee for breakfast and a protein bar or fruit for lunch and then I'll have dinner at home with DH.....I know diets recommend balancing your meals throughout the day but I have no appetite and I've been eating like this for the past year and a half and I've had no problems maintaining my weight....I don't know why the sudden change.....

I'm sorry for the vent but I just don't know what to do.....do I starve myself? take diet pills? skip dinner altogether?? I just want this weight OFF.

Are you doing cardio?? DH tells me cardio is the key... and for me what gets me is that I hardly eat during the day and then at night I am ravenous... so I know what you are going thru...

I would try and limit the carbs and eat 3-4 small meals a day...

I don't recommend diet pills... for me, they make me a maniac and DH cant deal with me...

I do cardio the majority of the days that I am at the gym......it's usually either 30 minutes on the steepmill or 15 minutes steepmill & 15 minutes pwerwalking on the treadmill.

What diet pills have you tried? Do they work?

Diet pills make me like a crazy person... you can't talk to me without me trying to bite your head off.. I have taken Xenedrine and the pills that Anna Nicole Smith was promoting (I don't remember the name)

I'm in the same boat! I've been trying everything I can think of. We even bought an elliptical to have in the house so there is no excuse for us to miss a workout.

I would try (I'm starting this myself) eating something small in the a.m. You need something to get your metabolism moving (a little fruit, or maybe some yogurt with granola). then try to eat little bits throughout the day. they say the key is to keep it going so maybe that'll help.

Good luck to you!

I'm not a believer in diet pills so I would not recommend...skipping meals is only going to slow your metabolism so I would not recommend skipping in hopes of losing weight...you best bet is to keep a daily food, exercise, weight log...try mixing up your current workout to give your body the shock it might need...perhaps a spin class, or step class, a bike ride...Your eating sounds a lot like what I do...I find that during the week I do not eat breakfast or much lunch because I am so ON...so once I get home and get comfortable I snack and eat for what I do not during the day...always worked for me until recently where I am eating more than usual...also not sure if you are into it but TLC has a new show called I Can Make You Thin...premiered last Sunday at 9pm...hope I helped you a little

I heard about that show but I haven't seen it......

Thanks for your advice, I'll have to try changing my gym workout......I am so fearful though of eating during the day because I think that will make me put on more weight.

you may be losing fat but gaining muscle (which weighs more). don't judge by the scale, judge by how your clothes fit and how you feel several weeks from now....

don't get discouraged!

Your welcome...I missed the show too but heard from 2 gal friends it had it's moments...Eating during the day may put on weight initially...or you may find with the food portioned throughout the day you are eating less at night...something I only see when I do eat both break & lunch...maybe sign up for a session or two with a personal trainer...do you have a gym buddy? I do better when I go with a friend...with all the chit-chatting I end up staying twice as long

Hang in there the weight always comes on quicker than it will come off

Re: Feeling depressed.......

so many things work for some and not others it is really hard to say what you should do or not do.

I did it your way - It is healthy for sure I felt stronger - I was even a nut right bfr the wedding working out 5 days a wk all cardo for no less than 45 min.
Watching everything... NOTHING stand still for over 5 1/2 months!
All of a sudden I gave up on that idea and ate less at night even if it was just chicken or not at all.

I made sure I did breakfast and a big lunch of salad and protein.
Than noticed the weight starting to slowing drip off...
1 mo before the wedding I went to drastic measures and had one day of eating ONLY celery . I chose wensdays. I lost 5 real pounds not water in 1 month!

My portions of food got in control from than on (I think that is key) Portion control w/some cardo

Re: Feeling depressed.......

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but you probably need to eat a little more. Skipping breakfast and having a protein bar or fruit (which is what, 200 calories?) is not a substantial amt of food. When you don't eat enough, coupled with working out, your body goes into starvation mode and cling on to every last fat cell. I know you've been eating like that for awhile, but your metabolism probably got slower from that.
I think if you add a little more to your earlier meals, you'll start to see a change.

Another option, depending on your insurance is to see a nutritionist.
I did that once. My insurance actually covered it. She helped me figure out what types of food I should eat and exactly how much. I kept a journal and met with her once a week or so.

Definitely stay away from pills! Been there, done that in my younger days--they don't work and can make you ill.

I agree with krista. If you starve yourself what happens is your body goes into survival mode and starts trying to hold onto your weight with a venegance because its trying to save itself.

I was anorexic for MANY years and it took me getting to9 7pounds (I am normally 125-130lbs on an average frame and 5'6) to snap myself out of it. Its NOT worth it.

talk to a nutritionist like Krista suggested. they can teach you what to eat. If you read female excercise mags-the REAL ones not crap like SHAPE but Fitness RX etc, the diets they show for these women show them eating ALL DAY in such quantities taht you're liek HOW can ANYONE lose weight and get shapely eating all that??!!! But they do.

Muscle burns calories faster so startign a weight lifting regimine helps too. FM me and I suggest some stuff for you that worked for me and might help you.

ETA You should join the SELF challenge with Krista and I-we support one another and it does help!
