fleas?!?! reccomendations please:(

my poor poor doggies they somehow got fleas the poor things! so here's the question...i wanted to get them the Frontline drops...usually works like a charm plus it kills eggs & the fleas themselves for up to 30 days...ANYWAYS, we realized they had them the other night and went to the store immediately...only they didn't have any frontline stuff - only Hartz. I've heard it was good so we just bought that since it was late at night & not much was open... well it's a week later & the poor things are still itching themselves. so now I wanna give them both a flea bath & then buy the Frontline like i originally wanted too...only thing is (and not to gross anyone out) they've been itching themselves so much that they've gotten Raw in some spots. I'm afraid the flea bath stuff is gonna sting them Does anyone a) if it will, or b) have any reccomendations for a gentle flea soap that'll rid them without hurting or stinging them??? I hafta wash them first before i can put the frontline on them(cant put it on top of the other stuff)...i know johnson & johnson is great for dogs but i was thinking the flea bath will do double the job. any help would be appreciated

Your poor doggies I feel your pain...........BOTH of our dogs had fleas too...actually, they are just getting over them. Putty, our eldest (2 yrs), has raw spots on his body from scratching and knawing on the area so much

We are currenlty using frontline on our dogs and also a flea shampoo from the vet. BUT, since you can't get to the vet for the shampoo, another one they recommended was the hartz flea shampoo.....apparently it's gentle enough for the raw areas. You can look them up online and see if they are a sensitve formula. We got Hartz shampoo from Wal-Mart...........

When we were infested with fleas a few years ago (2 cats), i took my cats to the vet, got them flea baths and then bombed our house. You MUST bomb your house to be rid of the stuff they leave behind which turns into more fleas...

Your vet sells the stuff to bomb your house with as well.

I am sorry to hear about your dogs. We went through months trying to get rid of the fleas. They are such a pain. They should be dying outside soon as long as it gets cold enough.

The flea bomers is one thing we haven't done yet......they are in our cleaning closet, but with two dogs and two cats, it's just hard getting them all out of the house.........But I think you got me on a mission now! Tomorrow will be the day!!!!!

When you bomb the house, you and your dogs cannot stay home. I would bomb the house when they are at the vet.

If you need any more info, don't hesitate to ask. we were so infested that I bombed 2x and it still wasn't enough. We had to have an exterminator come in and they guaranty it for like 6 months that if you see a flea, they will come back again. Sure enough, we had to have the exterminator come back & spray a month later. That was 2 years ago.....

So, did you have an issue with them getting on you? Is that possible? My Dh and I had itchy spots on our body the SAME time as the dogs had the really bad flea attack. So we were wondering if it was possible?

It is possible to be bitten by fleas, we had them way back b/c of our cat. Insanity in our house during that time, we had to bomb our house and go thru all the motions.

Yes.... Get this, our cats are not even outside cats.. We are the ones who brought them in our house b/c outside of our complex was infested.

The fleas only attacked me. I was super itchy and they mostly bite near your ankles... They are so hard to kill b/c their bodies are super hard and they jump high and fast. YOu have to actually take them in your finger and grind them to kill them. It's sick!

If you have bites and are itchy, it's probably that they've bit you as well.

God girls, I feel your pain, trust me!! The sooner you get rid of them, the better! They are a nightmare.

ETA: Fleas are attracted to light and anything white. If you wear white socks that is a reason for them to jump on you. If you lay a piece of white paper down on the floor and pay attention real close and not move you can probably see them jumping and hear them jumping on the paper.

they say if they're badly in the carpets or ur bed then yes, u can get flea bites. i've just been reading up a lot and it seems like if we dont nip this in the bud NOW that it can be a major major annoying impossibility to get rid of them. That even if the 'adult' fleas are gone on the pets that larvae can hatch for months!?!?!! DH is yelling at me to stop reading right now 'cause i'm freaking myself out lol. but UGH. i'm SO educating myself and going flea-kill crazy tomorrow lol.

UGH!!!!!! Yup, tomorrow is the day then..........that is just nasty! yuck!!!! Well, if they can get into the bed then I'm sure they can get into the baseboards..........dam little buggers!

That's all facts... After you bomb the house or exterminate, I believe you have to vacuum every other day or so. Make sure you change your vacuum bags every time you are don vaccuming otherwise they will live in there too.

Have you girls noticed any of the pupa (sp?) on your tables? It looks ike little brown specks and when you wet it it turns red. That is their poop from the blood they are sucking out of you and your dogs. It's just gross!!!
