this is my first post *** I've been reading this board for awhile now, I guess preparing for the moment the question was popped. Now that it has been, I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing. Im asking all you readers out there: 1. how did you get started? 2. has anyone booked any of the following? - swan club, crest hollow, fow hollow, villa victor, oheka, thatched cottage, carltun, or john anthony's - can you please comment. 3. any other starter tips would be great. thanks to everyone - i know its a lot to ask for, but it will be appreciated!!! ***
I''m planning my Long Island wedding from San Francisco - you can imagine how difficult that is. We''re looking for a less-traditional location to have the reception (park, beach, gardens). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. One place I''m considering is the Planting Fields Arboretum - has anyone checked that place out? Thanks everyone!
lisa...you know I didn't know about Land's End and just went on a recommendation from someone :)
look where it got us??

Re: for fun...your first post!
Too funny... here's mine except I think it was posted by FI at the time - he's the one who found the website and registered us on this!
Here it is! 'My fiance and I have started looking at halls. Does anyone have any feedback on the Cottage at Milleridge Inn or on the Westbury Manor?'

Re: for fun...your first post!
It looks like it was on June 25, 2001. There are a few from that day. Wow. That was fun to look-up.

This was mine ... only one person responded.
Westbury Manor Brides
We are getting married at the Westbury Manor June 2002. Everything is pretty much booked, we are just working with our Banquet manager to add menu additions to our cocktail hour. I was just looking for other WM brides and thought it may be helpful to start our own thread. PS - If anyone has anyone questions about our experience with WM, please email me!
Cindy ... I think I responded to that post!!!

I just looked at my first post back from January 2002 - it was about my awful experience at the Riviera in Massapequa.

Re: for fun...your first post!
This is my first post I could find on here...its dated 2/23/01 but I was a member longer than that... I guess its in the archives!!
Kel...I know exectly what you are thinking! I have 8 months to go and I feel that we are right on schedule with everything. The last big thing I have to do is get my bridesmaids dresses ordered. Im not sure if your read my dilema on the last board but I have been having problems with one of my bridesmaids. but hopefully that will work out!! :-) I already have my invitations picked out...its just too early to order them. My fiancée and I have to guarantee 150 people for the reception and the guest list is about 205 right now!! LOL...I thought we were going to have a problem getting 150. I wouldn`t worry about the bubbles...my mom bought my sister`s months before she got married and they were fine. She has already bought mine and is now decorating them
I also have a big dilemma with the invites at work...I work in a group of 5 woman...of which 3 of us are getting married. One of the girls is getting married in June and I`m not sure if she is inviting the people from work. I really want to invite them all but I don`t want them to feel bad if they can`t invite me. It should not make a difference right??
Well good luck with your planning! I think we should just enjoy the lull in the planning because as it gets closer it will get crazier!

Re: for fun...your first post!
Cool idea! Can you believe I only had about 13 posts in my first six months on this board? I know it took me awhile before I started really chatting on the board. I know I racked up the posts in the few months right before my wedding.
I only had 1 post in my first month. It was a review on Saymels a wedding shop in my neighborhood.

Re: for fun...your first post!
This was my first post. I did not even intoduce myself, just jumped right in and posted on a thread.
We have 2 ring bearers and are getting them personalized baseball bats. They will both be about 5-6 years old for the wedding. I searched and found a few sites on this. I can't remember the names, info is at home, but 1 site where the manufacturer logo would usually go, they put the last name of the groom, then the child's name in also put on the bat with the wedding date. They are real bats so can actually be used, or kept and displayed as keepsakes. Or if the ring bearer has a favorite team, the teams logo can go on the bat, then the child's name, etc.

Re: for fun...your first post!
What a good idea - and is that really sad that I was the first to respond to two of you guys?!
This was my first post, and I too, didn't introduce myself - I just jumped in! I can't see who I replied too - the archives don't give the poster's name!
BTW - I NEVER did get my deposit back from this dump of a reception hall - oh well, live and learn!
I personally don`t know first hand about The Meadow club, but I was also looking for a hall out of the mainstream. I found one, and b/c I did not know much about the food, references, etc., I put a deposit down and then heard horror stories about the place. Long story short, it`s not worth the headache! Therefore, I would suggest you do as much research as possible before deciding. I would also ask them for references - sure, they`ll give you happy customers, but you`ll be able to speak to them and get a lot more info.

Re: for fun...your first post!
I am not a newlywed just yet, but here is my first post on 7/25/02:
Hi everyone: I just recently got engaged (on the 5th), however, given my plans to apply to b-schools this fall, we're thinking of getting married 3 years from now. That leaves me a lot of time to plan things, is there anything I should/could be doing now to help things run smoother in the future? Thanks all. Alina the thread And stacedz replied first, with sonicstef and shamma following.
Of course, you all girls got me addicted to wedding planning, and the date has been moved up by 2 years to this July. And no B-school, just yet.
