I am going to Maui and Kauai. I was thinking of adding on two days in Honolulu and losing one day from Kauai. Did anyone go there? If you did, what is there to do and where did you stay.

Re: For those of you that went to Hawaii...
Hi Jodi,
I just got back from Hawaii on Friday. It was so beautiful. We went to Maui and we went for a day trip to Honolulu to see Pearl Harbor. Personally, one day in Honolulu was more than enough for me - we saw Pearl Harbor, went to Wikeiki and flew back in time for dinner. Being in Honolulu is just like being in NY, crowded, congested.
If you want to see the memorial, I would say definetly go for a the day - but no more than a day trip is needed.
Have fun- it is soooooo nice.

Ive never been to Maui or Kauai but stayed in Honolulu and really liked it. The mix of urban city with tropical paradise really got me.
We went when we didnt have much money so we stayed at an Outrigger hotel. It was okay, right near the beach.
We shopped, went to a luau, saw Pearl Harbor, went snorkeling at Hanlua (spelling) bay.

Re: For those of you that went to Hawaii...
That was our original agenda but we heard such great things about Kauai we changed our minds and opted on to visit Oahu. The only reason I wanted to go was to see PH, and other than that I knew the island wouldn't interest me TOO much - we both wanted to relax and enjoy the tropics quietly
I have only been to Maui and Oahu...but from what I hear Kauai is the best of the three you mentioned...
but its hard to go all the way to Hawaii and not go to Pearl Harbor...a day trip will be enough...

We stayed for three nights on (Oahu) at the Hyatt in Waikiki - then we went to Maui and Kauai. We were so glad that we did - Waikiki Beach is gorgeous, we enjoyed it so much. It was great at night too, we would go for walks on the beach amid all the hustle of the city - we loved it. We went to Pearl Harbor and also the Honolulu Zoo. The shopping is GREAT there too - if you want to bring 'Hawaii' type souvenir items home, they are MUCH cheaper in Waikiki than the other islands. The restaurants were great too. If you have the time go, you won't regret it.

We stayed for almost a week in Kauaii & loved it so much. Personally, I wouldn't give up even a day there! There was so much to do & the Hyatt was so lush & exotic & relaxing ... I'd go back for 2 weeks & not go anywhere else!!!

I wouldn't cut Kauai either - it is so pretty and relaxing. We wanted to do what you are considering because DH wanted to go to Pearl Harbor and stuff but then we decided against it. In hs I went to Hawaii and spent most of the trip in Oahu and I didn't like it then - of course I didn't stay in a great lavish resort/hotel either and we stayed on the strip in Waikiki - seemed like Florida - like Fort Lauderdale strip. I know there are some pretty nice resorts in Oahu though.
How many nights are you thinking for each island?

Niecey,
I am still working with Ruth. I just got off the phone with her, she thinks brides are nuts!
I was thinking 2 nights Oahu, 5 nights Maui and 4 nights Kauai.

Re: For those of you that went to Hawaii...
We stayed at the Halekulani on Oahu. It is without question the classiest, most service-oriented hotel I've ever stayed at. I went to the Four Seasons Maui later in my trip and thought they came no where near the Halekulani for pure service. In addition to Pearl Harbor, we went snorkeling at the most picture perfect beach called Haunama Bay. It was crowded by Hawaii standards, but having grown up with Jones Beach it seemed empty to me!

Jodi73 - I think that 2 nights Oahu, 5 nights Maui, 4 nights Kauai is PERFECT. It is really great to do the 3 islands if you can.

We did 2 nights Oahu and stayed at the Halekulani (I loved the Halekulani!!) We went there first and were so spoiled that no other hotel compared in service. We then did 4 nights Kauai at the Hyatt, 3 nights Big Island at the Four Seasons and 5 nights in Maui at the Grand Wailea.
I thought this was perfect..

Re: For those of you that went to Hawaii...
We just got back on April 20 from our honeymoon and we didn't want to go home. We looked in the want ads hoping to find a job so we could stay. We loved it. I am ready to go back anytime..just wish we had more vacation..we were in Hawaii for 15 days. I don't think my job would be too happy..
