For those who didn't change their name...

For those who didn't change their name...

I didn't change my name and I really don't want to change it.

An issue that will arise in a few years is what our children's last name will be - I want them to have mine but DH won't agree which I understand.

I know it's just a name but I feel like they'll lose my culture if they have his name.

Both of our last names are too long to hyphenate. I think I'll end of agreeing that the children should have his last name but I won't be happy with it. And then I'll feel weird to not have the same last name as my children.

My SIL kept her last name & my neice has her last name has her middle name. Can you do something like that?

I didnt change my name. We are not planning on having children . . . but you never know. I would probably agree to have the kids have DH's last name.
My middle name is my mom's maiden name - so I would probably do that

Its a common thing - i've seen a lot of children raised as FirstName HerLast HisLast. This way it won't be an issue when mrs. smith comes to pick up her child Sam Smith Doe...

Our plan is to hyphenate the kids' names. (I think they should get my last name, but DH won't go for it!)

Everybody has this knee-jerk reaction that hyphenating is bad, but I'm not really sure why. Plenty of British names are hyphenated, and they sound fine (all those Rhys-Davies and Rees-Joneses). What's the difference between that and just having a really long last name?

But if you guys both have long names, I can see why you wouldn't want to hyphenate. I think the only option then is to do the Baby HerName HisName thing. Or mix it up and put his name first and your name last!
