For those whose husbands cook
How do you eat healthily when someone else is doing the cooking? DH has tendency to throw in lots of butter, cream, etc. when I'm not looking!!!

Re: For those whose husbands cook
For us it is the opposite...I don't always cook healthy and he likes to eat very healthy. So when we started living together..I started to adjust to fit both of us. I try to cook more healthy for him esp on the weekdays...i guess it is good for both of us. But if I want something fired or startchy on the weekdays, then I make it but this isn't often...he has to deal because I am the one cooking...or I try to give him options. He tries to stay away from carbs/fried foods on weekdays so if I make rice or pasta - -I make a very small portion for him and veggies that he can substitute...he has good will power so it works for us. On weekends when I cook I tend to cook the less heathly and more heartly meals. It can be a pain though...

Re: For those whose husbands cook
He likes everything FRIED!! So that is a pain sometimes. I like things cooked in different ways. He only likes certain things and I really get tired of them. Sometimes I end up cooking two different meals just so I can eat a bit healthier. I love chicken, and he hates it, I used to eat chicken 3 times a weeks before I met him. Now I am lucky to have it twice a month!!

DH is the same way. he uses lots of butter, etc.sometimes i stand there and say 'ok that's enough'. and he pouts a little, but eventually will abide my wishes.
With the wedding coming up, we both were watching our weight, so it was easier. now that its passed - when i make a comment he just looks at me like 'you can relax now'!!
I try getting reduced fat/fat free, etc stuff. at least that helps. no, it may not taste as good, but at least its a little less on the ol' hips. if he wants his butter back, it may be an incentive to reduce portions of it :)

Since I have to watch my cholesterol, he's very good about what he makes. We do a lot of grilling on the George Foreman or baking. I also eat a lot of salad, so that helps too.

Yep DH hates substituting lighter things when cooking. But luckily he mostly makes meat, veggies and potatoes - our kitchen is too small to cook big recipes from scratch. He's done it a few times and the results are yummy but totally fatty. LOL

Re: For those whose husbands cook
My DH loves to cook. He tends to cook stuff that we both like. He likes to please me more than pleasing himself. He is usually good in following receipes with the quanity and measurements. My DH is an excellent cook and I love when someone else cooks. I do the cleaning which I don't mind as we compliment each other and I'm very lucky to have him in my life.Welcome New Vendors
