Fun question for the day: How did Santa bring you your gifts when you were a kid?
Original post by ddunne23
My friends and I were talking about this the other day and I never realized how everyone's parents have a different version of Santa. All of my gifts from Santa were wrapped and under the tree Christmas morning. We new they were from Santa since they just had our name on them. (It takes a good couple of years before you recognize your parent's handwriting!). I have other friends that woke up Christmas morning and all of their Santa gifts were unwrapped and displayed, like the Barbie Dream house was set up or the clothes were laid out. Then I have another friend who grew up with Santa leaving only gifts in their stockings. All gifts under the tree were from their parents.
I'd love to hear your families tradition and moms out there, what do you do for your children?

This is such a cute thread. I didn't know people did it in different ways. I never believed in Santa. My mother did not see the point. I never told any of the other kids, I remember not wanting to hurt their feelings. I always loved Christmas, I don't think it made a difference.

I believed forever! And right up until the last Christmas my mom was alive she still wrote love santa on all our gifts. Matt's first Christmas with me he got a ton of presents (he couldn't get over all the gifts-my parents always got nuts) and when he looked at the tag and they said love Santa I just smiled and told him to get used to it. Now it is something we do as wel!

I grew up leaving espresso for santa and stella d'oro cookies. For years we did this and I thought Santa must have been italian.
My mom would sometimes come in our rooms late at night at tell us Santa was on the roof.
ANd then this jackass when I got older and didnt beleive in xmas asked my mom who would drink the espresso and she said your dad who the hell else would

When I was really young, we lived in an 2nd floor apartment...and had no fireplace,
So I was told that Santa climbed the tree to gain entry to our aparment through the window, and then he left the gifts under the tree!

Every year we would leave out cookies, milk and Scotch. We thought this was common practice until a few years ago when my brother was in college and he told the story in class on day. He said the whole class started saying -WHAT?!?! You leave Scotch for Santa?? Whadda trying to get Santa drunk???? He then called me and my other siblings up and said Did you know that people don't leave Scotch for Santa? I said Yeah they do, to warm him up He saidOh no they don't Then I asked all of my friends and sure enough...no one did!! We still laugh about this EVERY Christmas
We used to wake up early (like 5 am) Christmas morning and have to look at sooooo many wrapped presents until like 8am when our parents woke up and we could open them

I don't remember leaving anything for Santa - I guess we were pretty greedy - all take, no give
But every Christmas morning, we'd have a ton of gifts from 'Santa' My parents were great, and they got my older cousin one year to dress up as Santa for us. I believed for a Loooonnng time
Even after my older sisters and bro knew the truth they kept pretending for me (I LOVE being the BABY

My Mom told me that on my brothers first Christmas (I think he was less than a month old) she wrapped all of his gifts and put them under the tree and went to bed, she woke up hearing the sounds of paper tearing....my Dad was downstairs unwrapping all my brothers gifts because 'santa doesnt wrap gifts'
But I always remember that Christmas eve my Mom had a big party for the family, I think Joey and I would eat and put our PJ's on at like 7:00 and we would TRY to fall asleep (I say try because everytime I fell asleep he would wake me up). We left milk & cookies and carrots, and like Jennbaby all the milk would be gone and 1 cookie left with a bite in it. We would run into the living room and there would be 2 or 3 big gifts from 'Santa' and all the rest from Mommy & Daddy.
I remember looking through the toy catalog from TOys R Us and my aunt writing down everything I said telling me she would mail my list I didnt believe her and made her take me with her to the mailbox (she mailed it to my Grandma)

I figured it out in Kindergarten when everyone in class got letters from Santa (from jr high kids) and I notived all the different handwriting (what a smart ass I was...my teacher tried to tell me that he had the elves help him...but I didn't buy it)
we also got our gifts on Christmas Eve...yet my 2 best friend who lived on either side of me didn't get it until the morning...so I thought it was suspicious that he would make two trips...
Erica you crack me up! You sound like quite the logical child when you were younger!

When we were really little (under 5/6), my parents left everything from Santa unwrapped and on display on Christmas morning...to me, that created the 'WOW!' effect when we woke up...to see everything in all its glory, just waiting to be played with! The only wrapped gifts under the tree were the gifts from my parents to one another, and my parents special gifts to us. They always made sure there were things under the tree for each of us that said from 'Mom and Dad.'
Same here Claud I'd leave cookies and milk out and there would be crumbs left on the plate and some on the floor-my mom would say Rudolph was always the messy one Some times, if there was snow on the ground my dad would make foot and sled prints and say they were Santa and his sled.
