This afternoon I went to a gas station for gas, but also to grab a cold drink. So I went inside and bought my items to the clerk. He gave me the price and I handed him a $20 bill from like 1990. It was one of those old style bills that you rarely see theses days. So I handed it to him. The man had a heavy accent. He looked confused when he saw the $20 and he said, 'this isn't a real money.' I told him it was and that it was just an older bill. He wasn't sure. I could tell he hadn't been in the USA very long. He called his manger to take a look at the bill, and he told him it was fine. I got a kick out of it. But when you think about, money has changed so much in the last almost 20 yrs now. I felt bad for the poor guy.

Re: funny story
Thats funny. Same thing happened to me but with the new bills when they started coming out. i was buying alchohol of all things and the guy was fine with my ID till he saw the bills that you know look like cartoon money. So he decides to hold my ID hostage, refusing to give it back and calling over the assistant manager and then the damn manager.
It didn't help I had my hair in pigtails and looked younger than I was.

Re: funny story
before my DH I was dating an FF. We went to a bar together and I had pig tale braids in. This guy was 26, but his whole head was gray. He looked like he was 36, I SYN. We went to the bar and he was being a jerk, so to freak him out, I started call him daddy.

Re: funny story
When i went to London in college with a friend her parents gave us some left over bills from their last trip....we get there...are lost trying to buy a map...and everyone keeps telling us we have 'bad' money...apparently things had changed in the years since her folks had been there!

That stinks!! I'd have been pissed!
Its bad enough here when stores refuse to take the dollar coins you get if you put too large a bill into a metro card or US postal service vending machine and need change. I'm always like HELLO i got it from the UNITED STATES postal Service! Its federal $$!
