Furniture Advice!

Furniture Advice!

DH and I are moving into a new place. We bought a new TV and want a new entertainment center/tv stand, coffee table, end table and we are in need a of a bit of storage.

So, we found a set of 2 end tables and a coffee table (sort of cherry finish) at Bob's and the coffee table opened into a storage chest. Very nice. Well, I don't like the entertainment center that matches the tables.

So, we found a beautiful dark cherry entertainment center elsewhere. The tables that match are insanely expensive....

Do we buy the Bob's tables and the other entertainment center? They're different colors but both cherry. Will the fact that they aren't the same set look terrible?!

Do we keep looking? Do we keep what we have an say screw it?

I'm honestly losing my mind furniture shopping EVERY night!

I'm the daughter of a carpenter. I never had to buy furniture. My dad always made me everything. AND nothing in the stores is as good as what my dad made!

Knock some sense into me. The pursuit of tables/tv stands is killing me slowly!

We have IKEA stuff now and we're looking to upgrade to get more 'house quality' stuff as we plan to be in a house in the next year or so.

Re: Furniture Advice!

we dont own anything from Bobs. I have 2 sets of friends that do. One set said they are happy with their stuff and the other set said they would never ever again buy from there. they said the couch's and mattresses are made out of cardboard and the stuff will fall apart after a year. I am not sure about things like tables.

DH and i have some stuff from ikea and raymore and flannigan and are happy with it.

Bobs supposedly is a step down from Ikea. DH and I got a kitchen table, brand new from a place on jericho Turnpike in new Hyde Park I believe. St Vincent de paul I believe it is called. it has a lot of used furniture, but they have a man who builds wood furniture and sells it there. We got a table for 6. Excellent quality for $400. It was a really good deal and will last forever.

personally, I would go the less expensive route especially since you are planning on buying a house.

It would stink if you bought the expensive stuff & then it didnt fit or work in your new home next year.

Thanks for the info! I didn't feel strongly about Bob's but the tables seemed solid.....

we looked at Raymour but I really want to avoid an entertainment center w/ glass due to future kiddies....

and why do end tables cost more than entertainment centers??!!?!

We're not buying anything big enough that it wouldn't work and we're pretty simple/basic in our tastes.

I just don't want to buy crap and have to buy new stuff in a year. If I do that, I might as well keep what I have.

Ugh.

Re: Furniture Advice!

When we got our place last year, we bought an entertainment center that was exactly what we were looking for, but we could not find end tables to match at ALL!

We ended up using temporary end tables until like 2 months ago (so just about for a year!) when I found the perfect end tables. Took a LOT of looking around, but even though they're not from the same company or the EXACT same color, they match, or rather coordinate really well.

So if you love the tables and entertainment center and they 'go' together, then go for it.

Honestly I love this look. I am not a fan of Bed sets that all match. I think it absolutely fine and it will bring interesting character into your bedroom. I say go for it , it won't look terrible - promise - I have a very similar thing going on as some of ours are antiques. GL

Re: Furniture Advice!

Thanks for the advice ladies!

I'm so OCD about this crap. It's literally keeping me awake at night.

And why am I so practical?!?! No glass due to kids?! I have no intentions of having kids for a year or so! ***?!?!?!
