gasp...O M G, her feet! (warning: kinda gross) pics fixed!

I almost just lost my lunch. this is horrible!!! i just feel so bad for this lady and all the women who were left disfigured and now have problems walking from the foot binding practice.

Its lieka trainwreck..you want to cover your eyes but can't..ugh though..my hairs are standing on end. I have a thing with wounds..Blood doesnt get me but when I can see INTO somen'es flesh like a ham hock....

That woman is like 154 years old! I think that's a testament to 'Whatever dosen't kill you makes u stronger'

I just think its crazy how her toes wrapped like that!

I've seen that before.
Her toes are curled under because of foot binding, which was a common practice in China. The feet measured only 4 to 6 inches.
It was not done in Japan to geishas.

Tiny shoes were worn.

i recently read a book that talked about the process of foot binding, and it's soooo painful and heartbreaking to read about. the smaller your foot was, the more desirable you were to potential suitors. you have to keep the bindings on for years to prevent your feet from growing normally.

I read the book..'The Secret Fan' it is all about the chinese culture and the foot binding. They do that when they are 6 yrs old. The better the binding the better family you can be married into.
When this is first done they actually have to walk on the feet until the bones break That has got to hurt!!

I am so saddened that ANY culture finds any kinds of purposeful deformity attractive. I cannot imagine the amount of pain these women went (go?) through.

yep, i wrote above that it was foot binding. ive seen and heard about this before but never such graphic pics!!! i originally just wrote what the email said, that it was done in the 'times' of geisha, but i have no idea if it was actually done to the geishas. like you said, it was done more in china.
