I would love any recommendations or advice about how go get pin straight hair to have some body and fullness. One of my friends recommended the Big Sexy Hair line of products, but they are really expensive, and I'm hesitant to spend the money. Do any of you girls have REALLY straight hair? How do you build up the body?? TIA

I use the Sunsilk line for adding volume. Can't remember the exact name but it's yellow. It's VERY cheap. When I want to spend a little more, I use the Mark Anthony line- called Instantly Thick. There can sometimes be awesome sales - buy one get one half off or something like that.
I use volumizing mousse - Tresemme. I always start to blowdry my hair with my head upside down. And I also spray my hair spray when my head is upside down first, then I brush it back down.
A great haircut helps!! Lots of layers make a big difference.

Ditto on layers.
Bend over at the waist when using the hair dryer. For me, to get the most body possible, I have to dry my hair 100% (no going out damp) or else it ends up like limp seaweed.
Perhaps doing a blowout by yourself--using a round brush--can help. My hair gets really dried out by doing that too often, so I only save it for special occasions.

Re: Getting straight hair to have fullness/body??
my hair is naturally wavy soo whenever i straighten it i also want the body. What i do is spray my roots with volumizing hairspray as i blow out my hair, then after its straight, i put curlers in my hair, if im lazy and in a rush (which is usually the case) I only put them in the top since thats where i want the body. Take them out and run your fingers through your hair a little and you have got the volume!

I use Kerastase and they have amazing volumizers that work so great. I also use the shampoo and conditioner and then after put on their expanseur spray.
Alterna is amazing shampoo and conditioner
it will also depend on how your hair is cut. Layers are good but also depends on what type of layers bc if your hair is thin like mine then alot of layers look bad and unless you sit there and really blow dry your hair well and section each part the layers just look bad and gives you that shaggy look.

ohhh yes I forgot to mention using a round brush when blow drying- a large one is great. I also used to use one of those big fat curling irons to add body- just quickly curl up, hold for literally a second, and bring it back down so you don't get a curl, you just get body. Then comb it out.

Re: Getting straight hair to have fullness/body??
I usually blow my hair out with a very large round brush. I just recently started letting my hair dry naturally and then I use a 1.4' curling iron to get some loose waves. It is super easy to do (I have some pics in my 2008 album). My hair is super thick and blowing it out takes so long, but using the iron in really fast :) Lastly, I will usually spray it with some hairspray to finish it off.

Thanks ladies! I do have layers, but I'm not sure, maybe the lady didn't do that great of a job. I feel like my hair is totally limp ALL the time. I think part of my problem is that I just don't put enough time into it - I always end up leaving the house with the back still damp (i know, it's a no-no). I definitely appreciate all the product recommendations though, and I can't wait to pick some up!! Big, sexy Victoria's Secret hair, here I come
Also, if you do put curlers into dry hair, how long do they need to be left in? My mom used to sleep with them in overnight, but I don't think I could tolerate that!

yeah thats my problem, i dont have the patience to put that much time into it. So i always complained about my hair and always saw all these other girls who you can tell put the time into it and wish i could. Ever since i cut my hair it helps bc that alone gave it alot more volume, but also now i was forced to put in a little more effort. With it being short, if i dont blow it out right then it starts flipping out and hate the way that looks, when i had long hair it didnt matter and would just fall straight. At first i was afraid with my new short cut bc i thought it would take forever to do, its weird but short hair was always more maintenance for me. But now i am real used to it and although i have to put in a little more effort, it doesnt take that long and got used to it.
I think once you put in a little more time, it will make a big difference. Sometimes even just 5 mins extra will make all the difference

It's funny that you say that, b/c I always had long hair, and then this summer I cut it to just touching my shoulders. But yea that's another thing, I keep having a problem where the ends kind of flip outwards (even though I try to blowdry them under). This happens more on one side than the other. So annoying. Maybe next weekend if I go out I will actually put more effort into it and see how it goes. Before work in the morning, it is just impossible!

i hate the flipping out thing. My suggestion is getting a flat iron and smooth out the edges and for them to go straight instead of flipping out. For years people told me to get a flat iron and i thought they were crazy, i said my hair is too straight as it is so why would i. But there are more uses to it, and since i got a flat iron it has helped me SOOOO much and what makes it easier for me now to do my hair. I only use a round brush for the top part in the back of my hair, since i have the stacked look in the back and need a little more volume on top. I dont use the round brush on my whole hair bc with such a short cut if i do the round brush in the front part then it will give me that bob look that is too done and too round which i dont want. So instead i just blow dry it quickly using a big paddle type brush just to smooth it out and takes just 2 mins. Then i take a round brush and do just the back of my hair, and only just a few big sections and again takes just a few mins. Then the front part since i dont want it to be rounded, i use the flat iron and just run it through front part of my hair quick and gives me the exact look i want for front of my hair. Then i quickly run it through all my ends so it doesnt flip out. I prefer this over a round brush bc i dont want my hair to flip under either and have a mrs brady look haha
