Getting used to a new name!

Getting used to a new name!

How long did it take you girls before you thought your new last name sounded right with your first name? I changed mine a few weeks ago and have been trying to introduce myself that way to people, etc - and I know it's not been that long at ALL, but I wonder how long it will be before it sounds right??

I am totally having an identity crisis because some things are in my maiden name, some are in my ex-husbands last name, and some are in my new name!

Finally just getting used to it. This was VERY hard for me. Still missing my old name but it's getting a lot better

It still sounds so wierd to me! Work is the hardest place for me to get use to it because I use to answer with my maiden name and now people are like who is this?!?

7 months later, and I'm still not used to it. I definitely feel like I'm having a bit of an identity crisis. Its a really bizarre concept to me...you have the same name your whole life, and then poof..all of a suddent it changes to something else.

I think I'm finally getting used to it....the toughest thing was job searching and introducing myself in interviews with my new name...very weird. Whenever we see any of DH's friends they are like well hello MRS L****, really emphasizing it, pretty much always, so that helps a little

surprisingly, it didn't take me too long to get used to it at all. i was so undecided what to do, but about a week before we got our marriage license i decided to change my name, and i got used to calling myself my married name before the wedding to be sure it sounded good. now sometimes my maiden name sounds strange, but i always joke w/ DH that my maiden name is my real name.

jenn, BTW, it was a post you made at the beginning of the year about changing your name and the reasons why that really helped me decided to change my name.

I know! I realized the other day that I will be 62 before I will have had the new name as long as the old one!!!! How crazy is that! If I got married when I was 25, I would have been only 50. Still unimaginable, but not 62!!!!

I think I am going to start putting 'formerly B*****' in parathesis after my name on my emails!

it's been almost 7 months for me too and i'm still not used to it. somebody called me 'mrs. g****' this morning in the doctor's office and i kept repeating it in my head. i still secretly think of myself by my maiden name i do think when we have kids it will seem more natural, but for right now it's still very very strange!

Re: Getting used to a new name!

I got used to saying it right away. I also went from a difficult last name that i always had to spell out for people and repeat again, and now to a very easy last name that most people know. So I couldn't wait until I was able to use it lol.

Problem is I have half of my stuff changed and half still in my old name, so when it comes to documents it gets confusing.

I have not gotten used to it yet.. Everytime I go to say my old last name DH makes a BUZZER sound like on a game show when you get something wrong.

thats too funny!

I am not used to it either- it just doesnt go with my first name well and my maiden name was a city in Italy and I feel like switching to a greek last name made me lose that italian part of me
