Gift Help, PLEASE!!

Any help on this gem of a gift would be great, haha.

I just found out that my mom's boyfriend of 15 years is going to be here for Christmas for the first time ever. Every year since I've met him, he's been in California visiting his sisters for the holidays; we've never gotten each other gifts before for the holidays! Now, I have NO CLUE what to get him, and my mom told me I have to get him something or she'd be upset. Here are some reasons I'm having a hard time figuring out a gift:

-I'm not a fan of him .
-He doesn't really like conventional things. The only gifts he's gotten my siblings and me have been completely random, usually found at garage sales. For example, he once got my brother bull horns.
-If I got him a gift card, he'd probably throw it out. I've heard him complain about gift cards in the past.
-He owns his own contracting business, so he doesn't need any tools/home repair stuff. That would be like getting him a work gift.
-He does NOT drink, so wine would not be good.
-My mom told me not to get him anything clothes-related.
-Things I know he likes: My mom, garage sales, cigarettes, Thai food, and God. The gift does not have to relate to these things though.

I thought of getting him a gift card to a Thai restaurant (I heard great things about Lemonleaf Grill?), but my mom vetoed that. Not sure why.

Help a LIWer out?!

Re: Gift Help, PLEASE!!

hmm ... tough call.

how about some random shiznit you can find at gadgets & things or something?

or one of those water fountains for the house (that you plug into the wall) ... it's very 'zen'

or a Feng Shui Crystal Ball ... they're supposed to bring luck and whatnot

would he like something like a dream catcher?

how about a picture frame with a pic of 'the family' (since he likes your mom lol)

Re: Gift Help, PLEASE!!

Can you go to a religious store and maybe find something there? Maybe some kind of book or statue?

Re: Gift Help, PLEASE!!

Maybe a nice cross would be nice.

Or go to a Thrift Shop and look around. You can find anything in there and get him something in there.

OR I second the water fountain thing that Colleen said...very zen!

Does he cook? If so...maybe a small gift basket of stuff to make a Thai dish?

He doesn't cook. If he did, that would have been great!

Knickknacks won't be good, unfortunately . He is not a hoarder clinically, but he's definitely on the edge of being one. I've only been in his apartment once in 15 years, and he devotes two rooms to completely random stuff.

Like I said, he's a winner.

DH and I found 'Apples to Apples: Bible Edition' in the mall the other day. We are thinking that might be the gift we'll give, but we don't want him to think we are mocking his religion. I just know that he and my mom hang out with a lot of very religious people, and I bet this would be a fun game to play for their crowd.

Keep these ideas coming, ladies!!!!

Re: Gift Help, PLEASE!!

Get him a carton of smokes, then. You don't like him, so it's a gift to BOTH of you.
