going to a wedding in San Francisco - help with wine country recommendations!
DH and I are going to a 9/5 wedding at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco (day after our 1 year anny). We're going to make a full trip out of it, from 9/1 to 9/6. I haven't been there in years, and this time I def. want to see wine country with DH and stay there for a night or two. Have any of you traveled there before? There are so many options, I don't know where to start!

Well the first thing you need to decide is are you going to Napa or Sonoma? Or both? Also, do you just want to do wine tasting or other activities too? There are many upscale places you can stay at in both areas. I suggest going to Calistoga and enjoying the hot springs there and the great restaurants and vineyards in that area.

I'm thinking Sonoma. Definitely wine tasting, not sure about other activities except maybe spa treatments. Someone recommended the Fairmont, but not sure if we'll get the true wine country experience staying in a big place like that. Calistoga, that sounds amazing!

I don't know where Beringer's Estate is, but I like that as a starting point. They're probably one of the most corporate of the wineries, but their tour is really extensive and they teach you a lot about the actual making of the wine. If you're into that kind of thing, it's interesting to know what to look for and what's going on before you go tasting at the smaller places. Plus the town is pretty cute (lots of restaurants and shops) and a few places to do olive oil tasting.

I agree re: Beringer. We also LOVED Chateau St. Jean - it was beautiful and their wines are phenomenal. We ended up joining their wine club.
DH and I did a similar trip 2 years ago (August), if you want me to send you our pics FM me your email address.
We stayed at a very private, secluded rental house in Sonoma. Price was great, good location, private hottub. Totally recommend it.

I love Sonoma, my friend's family has a vineyard there and we love to be there and love to tube down the Russian River. I can't help with suggestions though since we stayed at there vineyard.
Meadowood is a beautiful resort hotel in Napa. It might be to pricey to stay there but treat yourself to dinner there.
