Re: Got a no & a check today--2nd question
In order to cash or deposit the check, both your names have to be on the account. I also believe you should both sign the check.
We didn't have a joint account when we got married (long story, don't ask - but we do now), but if we tried to cash a check over $1000, they wouldn't let us. The bank made us put each other names on the accounts. That has worked out well for us.

we deposited those into our joint account. You both do not need to sign the check - in fact if you're depositing it, you don't need to sign it at all. I deposit checks all the time with no signature. Different story if you're cashing, but it should only need one signature.

Re: Got a no & a check today--2nd question
I had a different experience with my bank. Patrick and I had a joint account, but it was in my maiden name. We both had to sign ALL the checks, and I had to sign twice ~ once with my maiden name, and once with my married name. It was a pain!
The moral of my story: Check with your bank and find out their policy.

Definitely check with your bank. I had no problem. DH signed the check and deposited it into our wedding account. It was a joint account but my name was in my maiden name. We had no issues.

Definitely check with your bank, as it seems that each one does something different. We had to wait to deposit any checks made out to Mr. & Mrs. until after we had our marriage license to prove that we were married, even though we had a joint account that was in my maiden name. We both had to sign the checks.

Call your bank just to be sure. Mine was pretty easy - we had a joint acct, and I just signed my maiden name (since at the time that was my name on the acct) James signed as well and that was it!

We had to do the same thing as JennRenee. I was in shock the whole time over how generous people were.

Re: Got a no & a check today--2nd question
I had to sign the checks twice. The biggest problem was with checks for $5000 or more and when we went after the wedding to make the deposit of a lot of checks at once that totaled significant amounts of money. We got away with it because I work for the bank. But check with their policy so you will be ready when you go in after the wedding.
