Got So Much Accomplished This Morning- DMV & Passport Changed

I got an early start and went down to the DMV in Jamacia, Queens to change my drivers license over to my married name.. bad news is that it's so long hyphenated they couldn't fit my first name on it anymore- not a big deal. All they needed was my marriage certificate! Cost was only $10.

Since I was closeby I went to the post office and picked up an amendment application for my passport- some good news is that to amend the passport is free but if you wanted it rushed it would be $60 (which I plan to do) and also have to send the original marriage certificate as well.

So far a very productive day!

Yes it does! I am almost done changing things over - just need to do one more bank account (may not do it anyhow since I may just close it out anyhow), cell phone bill (easy call there), cable bill (again easy call), and my notary public which I have to find out how to do..it's probably an easy process.

DH had gone to them and told them that I needed to change my name and his address (he moved in with me) I thought they told him the wrong information because the form he brought home didn't look right.

I went today and spoke to the clerk and told him 'I got married recently and need to change the last name (to hyphenate it) on my passport'. He went and got the form (one page it's green in color) and told me that I just need to fill it out and send it to the address on the back of the form with the original marriage certificate and the passport.-they said it has to be sent directly to a processing center in South Carolina. It says on the form that if you want rush service (1 week as apposed to 3-4 weeks) it's a $60 fee (postal money order only). If you can wait the 3-4 weeks it's free!

This is one of the reasons why I mentioned this on the boards hoping that I can help out someone else...good thing that what DH brought home I read first before I started paying and filling stuff out.

It is free only if your passport has been issued within the past year.
I had to pay for a new one, $75, since my passport was 6 years old already.
Good news is that I got my new one in less than two weeks.
