Grrr...name change

This is my first post as a newlywed! congrats to all of you others out there too! i JUST got back from honeymoon and havent even posted a wedding review yet, but am having big name change problems so i figured this was the place to ask!

I searched and there are so many different answers that I got even more confused!

what is the best way to do the offical name on your SS card and all - if you are keeping maiden name professionally and taking married name personally???
i have heard so many different things and it is getting me stressed- problems with taxes, flights, etc???

ANYWAY< i will post a review and pics as soon as I get settled in the 'real world' and hope everyone is well!!

Re: Grrr...name change

Congrats and welcome to the Newlywed side! Can't wait to read your review and see pics!!

As for your name change, I don't reallly know what you should do. I kept my maiden name as my middle name, but use new last name exclusively. I believe that whatever you decide to put on y our SS card, you must file your taxes with that same name. I know that doesn't help you, but it's the best I can offer.

Congrats.

Re: Grrr...name change

I thought that you would just call yourself by your maidan name professionally, but you have to use your married name for your work related paperwork?

but I'm really not sure...sorry

Re: Grrr...name change

I work at a brokerage firm. I changed my name legally on my social security card, bank accounts because I have direct deposit and driver's license. I could keep my maiden name professionally on everything else at work (like email addresses, phone lists) and have people at work still call me by my maiden name. The only time I had a problem was when I went to take a continuing education tests for my Series 7 licensing. I was still going by my maiden name but since I needed to provide ID (driver's license) it was in my new married name. I had to have the license changed to my new name so everything would match. I figured to avoid any more confusion I changed everything at work also. I sent an email to people and clients that I deal with of the change and had the computer guys link my old email address with my new one. I can receive mail from both addresses but when I send email it says my new name so they can get used to it.
Hope this helps.

Re: Grrr...name change

Not sure what field you are in but I am in IT - so not sure if it will be the same.

I keep my maiden name in the office - similar to what dawnie described (email, phone list, voicemail, etc). I have all my paperwork dmv, ssn, etc. changed to my new name. At work, I changed all my benefits, insurance, 401K and payroll to reflect my married name. If I ever leave here, I may go over to my married name for consistency sake. I have a few certifications in my maiden name but I don't think they matter too much - 'cause I can always prove they are mine.

Re: Grrr...name change

I hyphenated the last names on all paper work. I used my maiden name at work and his for everything else.
