My friend who was married last May in West Virginia wants to order copies of her DVD. Only when she tried to order them the photographer gave her the run around. Yesterday she called in tears because she recieved a letter saying they were retiring and closing the studio. She can buy her negatives if she wants but as per the contract states they do not save any raw video footage or final edited copies. All VHS/DVDs much be ordered at the same time.
When she called to ask if she could have the DVD copied they told her it's coated with something and it would ruin the DVD if she tried to copy it. Given that she can't get another copy from her photographers she's VERY afraid to chance ruining the one copy she has now.
Any suggestions? Do you think it'll hurt to have it copied to a VHS? I just don't want her to risk loosing her only copy.
TIA

Re: Has anyone coped their wedding DVD?
I could be wrong but i dont think there is even such a thing (a substance on the dvd that would ruin if copied) and heres why:
When you copy a DVD, all its doing is playing it on a computer, saving it to memory and then burning that information on a new disc. The player with the original DVD would not know the difference between being played or being saved.
I dont want to tell you for sure b/c maybe its possible...but its unlikely.

Re: Has anyone coped their wedding DVD?
Thanks Stef! I kept telling her I just don't understand how it could 'ruin it' - not copy it sure..but ruin it I don't think so. None the less I'm sure I'd be nuts if it was my only copy.
She's going to try & look into getting it put on a VHS or possibly a DVD through a professional videographers studio down there.
Keeping our fingers crossed!

Re: Has anyone coped their wedding DVD?
Thats exactly what I was going to say. call another videographer. they know if their is or is not a substance that will destroy this. I am sure they know how to copy this kind of stuff. They are putting VHS's from the past on DVD that had copyrights, so i would think this could be done.

Re: Has anyone coped their wedding DVD?
why would they purposely try to stop you from copying the DVD if they weren't getting anything out of it? They have nothing to gain by telling you that? I would check it out with another videographer or a place that burns DVDs to make sure.
