i don't want to freak you out - but i've had it done on my leg and my brother had it done on his back.
IF it is the same test we had, i'm truly, truly sorry - it was the single most painful experience of our lives (but that was because we both had nerve damage)...
The test we had basically was they hook a battery (not really a battery, but close enough) up to your whatever, back, leg, etc...and shock your nerves. The response prints out on a piece of paper and they make sure all of your nerves are responding.
it's how I found out I have dead nerves in my foot and calf, from a bad fall many years ago.
AGAIN - the reason it hurt both me and my brother so badly was because we both had nerve damage. If you don't have it - i don't know how bad it would be.
This also may NOT be the test you are going to have.

i have to agree with jess. i think the test i had was an ENG. i had herniated discs in my neck (cervical spine), pressing on my nerves causing numbness and tingling all the way down to my fingers in my left hand.
my test involved needle-like probes being stuck in different points and being moved around while the machine sent a shock to see if the nerves were responding.
i felt better a little bit after the test was over.
like jess said, if there is no nerve damage, i'm not sure how the test would be.

Same here - I had an ENG (is that the right name?) done on my arms and legs. Some areas did not hurt, some really did. But the thing is, it's a pretty quick test so do not worry! And if you do feel pain, it's only during that part of the test - it doesn't linger once they're done.

Most likely you will be having and EMG (electromyography)....
I had one done on my shoulder and did have nerve damage.... I will admit, It HURT.......

its probably an EMG, there are 2 types: needle and surface electrode. i've had both; the needle one is very painful but it only lasts seconds as they test each muscle. the electrode one is not as painful, but again its a brief burst of electricity to test your muscle/nerves.
you'll be fine, its a quick thing.

yes, I had an EMG on my feet, legs and lower back (thought I had nerve damage in my leg from a basketball injury) it hurt bad and my legs felt like they had bad cramps for 3 days straight best of luck, I hope you dont need the test

Thank you for all the responses!!
My regular doc told me the other doc will do a nerve test and MRI. I didn't think to ask cause I was still trying to keep myself steady from the loss of blood they drew from me.
I have always had a bad back but this by far is the worst feeling!!
