The wedding i was in last night had a 'no shots policy' implemented so there were no shots. The wedding im in 2 weeks from tomorrow, same thing. I've never heard of this. Anyone else ever hear of this or know why? I was assuming maybe they dont want people getting out of control but then DH said people will get drunk regardless. Im not too sure

The reason i heard was b/c people get more drunk by drinking shots then mixed drinks...at mine you weren't allowed shots but you were allowed an on the rocks drink...I found that odd...but I was told that parties get more rowdy when shots are allowed...

My RH hall had a no shot policy and that was fine by me.
ditto
yah b/c you guys were not asking for it.
-It was just interesting to read the above post b/c honestly I was drinking some drink and it didn't taste like there was much or any alcohol in it. I swear they water down the drinks or switched it outw/something else! I didn't want to keep drinking these sweet drinks , or watered down drinks all night I started to feel full. So finally I just resorted to asking for something straight up and the bartender was frowning on it and put it in a glass and told us to keep it quiet! We tipped him nicely for him to fill the glass up more than he would have -but my point is -that shouldn't be

well i think its to avoid for people to get drunk and out of hand. I used to bartend and you are required to fill the cup with ice (to save liquor) but I see it as a way to water down drinks. Shots will get to you pretty fast and RH probably have experience this in the past.

my RH also had a no shot policy, i'm pretty sure people didn't care.
It's not so much a matter of caring. What surprised me was that i posted the same post on BHB and i received this response from a girl.
'Most halls have a no shots policy....All the ones I worked at didnt allow shots either...Its because they feel they lose money on an open bar package, they feel you drink more if your doing shots and you cant short poor the customer. MANY also do it because they switch out the liquor in their bottles.. Like take an absolut bottle and put rack/crappy vodka in it to look like they are serving top shelf in order to make a bigger profit(which is illegal but done very often, its super popular to switch n serve stoli or absolut as grey goose!) ... and by having shots it is more likely they will get caught because people can tell the difference, its much easier to mask with a mixed drink. I personally think it is stupid considering you are paying all this money for an open bar, but I guess its all about the business making money, not the consumer getting what they paid for.'
If this is true, which she definitely seems to know what she's talking about, then that's really sad that customers aren't getting what they pay for.
The part about the switching of the liquor in bottles is absolutely true. I used to waitress at a RH when I was in college and we used to do that. Back then, I had no idea that was illegal. I just assumed it was so the RH could save a buck.
My RH did not have a no shot policy but I did and I made sure they knew about it. I had quite a few potential 'problem' guests and I did not want people getting out of control. It kind of annoyed me later that I heard people were doing shots all night. Everyone behaved but it upset me b/c I had THREE meetings with the hall regarding this issue. Whatev. Everyone had fun. And behaved.

same here.
it is actually a rule of theirs (meaning, the hall) but even if it was not a rule they already had i would have requested it and mentioned it when i signed my contract - it is not the type of atmosphere i wanted for my wedding. drink all you want - but drink out of a glass in a reasonable manner. there's no need to be sucking down liquor. the other thing was we gave a donation to MADD as our favor -- so, i felt promoting drinking at that level was a little errr inappropriate. no one had a problem with it - if they wanted a drink, they had it on ice. everyone had a ball at the wedding regardless.

I assumed this was going to be the case at my wedding, based on what I read on LIW, but I never asked.
I was surprised to see the NRC did NOT have a shot policy -- a group of my friends brought over shots for me/DH and we did them as a huuge group. My dad's buddies were also doing shots with my 21 year old sister, as were DH and his friends. My friends did other shots too.
I was surprised, to be honest.... even if they were available I never expected them to be such a big hit! I guess when you have an open bar.....
