Has anyone ever heard of this at a wedding? xpost

The wedding i was in last night had a 'no shots policy' implemented so there were no shots. The wedding im in 2 weeks from tomorrow, same thing. I've never heard of this. Anyone else ever hear of this or know why? I was assuming maybe they dont want people getting out of control but then DH said people will get drunk regardless. Im not too sure

My RH hall had a no shot policy and that was fine by me.

Some halls do that - i went to a wedding at East WInd and they said it was their policy. In a few other halls (cant remember which ones) they wouldnt serve them out of shot glasses, it had to be in a regular glass with an ice cube - have no clue why tho!
I also went to another wedding and when we asked for shots they said no shots, brides request.

Yes I've heard of it before---and I was in my friend's wedding last year and at the request of the bride & groom--there were no shots allowed. Sometimes its the RH's policy and other times its like my friend. I think they just want to make sure people don't overdo it with the free booze--since the RH would be deemed responsible if someone got in their car after drinking shot after shot and killed someone or themself. I believe the term is Dram Shop liability laws.

At my wedding (Crest Hollow Country Club) there were not shots meaning no shot glasses but they did give it in a glass

yep...actually most weddings i've been to lately have this. a lot of places now have it as their policy... we weren't aware at our wedding that they had this untill the hubster went up to have a round with his guys...they of course let him because he was the groom, but other then that, nope! no shots allowed!

A lot of RH have that policy.. talk to the bartender and they can just make any shot in a regular glass.

Same at my wedding at CLM (and we of course made sure we tipped the bartender after doing this!).

It's not so much a matter of caring. What surprised me was that i posted the same post on BHB and i received this response from a girl.

'Most halls have a no shots policy....All the ones I worked at didnt allow shots either...Its because they feel they lose money on an open bar package, they feel you drink more if your doing shots and you cant short poor the customer. MANY also do it because they switch out the liquor in their bottles.. Like take an absolut bottle and put rack/crappy vodka in it to look like they are serving top shelf in order to make a bigger profit(which is illegal but done very often, its super popular to switch n serve stoli or absolut as grey goose!) ... and by having shots it is more likely they will get caught because people can tell the difference, its much easier to mask with a mixed drink. I personally think it is stupid considering you are paying all this money for an open bar, but I guess its all about the business making money, not the consumer getting what they paid for.'

If this is true, which she definitely seems to know what she's talking about, then that's really sad that customers aren't getting what they pay for.

Goes to show you how much I know - Just found out about this recently. I can understand on some levels why they did it but at the same time it annoyed me b/c I just wanted something straight up w/out drinking all night . Then the bartender just gave us what we wanted in a glass - so it was all good after all

that is a very good point you make bc alot of places do that. I wonder if some places do it for this reason. At CLM they have a no shot policy but for our e-party there, a big group of our friends went to the bar and wanted shots. So they just halfway filled a glass for them and everyone was still doing it. Which if you think about it, you could do that anywhere. For example you can ask for jameson neat and do it as a shot. Dh drinks scotch, not as a shot but as a regular drink and we went to a place and asked for it and the amount they put was so little it could've been used as a shot. And at CLM i was surprised bc when they asked for vodka shots, they gave them gray goose
