Has anyone ever made a shadow box/memory box?

I bought a nice one on sale at Michael's. I've never made one, and I'm clueless.

The main part of it is going to be this signed picture of Derek Jeter given to us as a wedding gift. We'll also put the Yankee tickets from our wedding day on them (we had to miss our regularly scheduled Saturday game- and missed A Rod's 500th home run- so there's history for ya!! ), probably our invitation, my Yankee garter, and our cake topper.

Any tips on how to make this work? How do you 'hang' the pictures and what not? Do they sell pins of some sort? Or should I use gluedots? I was looking in the scrapbooking aisle and I saw brads but they obviously won't work. I figured I might need decorative pushpins or something.

I just made one for DH for V-day, using his bus driver memorabilia.

You can use whatever you want to fasten the items. Glue dots are fine, brads look nice if you want a bit of decoration, but I would still use a glue dot underneath.

I put in the certificate he received from the MTA for the Hurricane Katrina Relief in the center. Then on either side I fastened two wide ribbons, using heavy double stick tape. To the ribbons I attached his old Steinway transit badge and his old Queens surface badge, a Queens Surface uniform badge and a MTA uniform badge.
I also added his Queens Surface replica bus, put glue dots on the wheels so it doesn't slide around.
I wrapped the ribbon up the side of the shadowbox and around the outside, just to keep it secure because the badges are heavy. I then used clear heavy packing tape to secure the tape on the sides. Can't see it once the box hangs on the wall.

Have fun !

LOL its not that difficult. This one was a PIT only because the flowers wouldn't lay right. i kept having to open, fluff the petals, close, reposition, refluff...I felt like I was on a porn set with all the fluffing I had to do.

here's a shadowbox i made awhile ago...but mine came with the matts for the photos...not a soft b/g...

Here are some helpful tutorials-first one is a link of many diff videos. I put the links in terms of the oens I felt most descriptive/helpful.

Ok this first link has TONS of different kinds of shadow boxes -some of which I plan to do. I really like the pasta one and want to do a variation of it with some fake food stuffs for my kitchen! They look really helpful.

Thanks! It was frustrating but a fun endeavor. I want to make one for the bathroom because I have not found any wall art I like that matches our curtain and colors.
