Have you ever been to a 'renewal of vows? '

Have you ever been to a 'renewal of vows? '

James and I can't wait to renew our vows next year and plan a different type of celebration than the one we already had. Our wedding was a blast but I really can't wait to put my dress on again!

Do you think it is ok to have it when the weather warms up rather than on our actual wedding date so we can have it in our backyard?

I am already gathering ideas for the type of party we want to have.

--maybe something sweet at home on our anniversary w/ a replica of our cake.
Any ideas? Have you planned anything like this?
thanks ladies..

to be honest, i've never seen anyone do this before when they've only been married a year. sounds a little strange to me, no offense. i have seen people married for like 50 years renew their vows again in Church, but that's it.

i have seen it once for a 10 year and once for a 50. The 10 year was basically family reunion and then they had their deacon come and did a quick renewal.

The 50 was a bit more of a celebration about the couple they had all the family and they had a really nice outdoor event.

ITA.

And also, i think it might be a little weird to put your dress back on for that! when i hear vow renewal, i think of something small and intimate!

so since its an anniverary party now....are you still gonna put your dress back on? i would think it would be easier to just find a simple dress for such a party vs. wearing the wedding dress again.

either way, i haven't heard of anyone renewing vows after just a year...but i guess everyone is different.

I think it would be a bit a weird to have a renewal of vows party on your first anniversary. That seems a bit too soon. If you and your dh go away and renew your vows that is one thing but to have another party is a bit excessive.

Any kind of anniversary party I have ever been too has been thrown for the couple by their children on a 'big' anniversary such as a 25th or a 30th.

One thing to consider is this - you got married just over a month ago and are still on that Newlywed 'high' - who DIDN'T want to wear their dress again right after the wedding? I know I did! Also, it's so great to think about celebrating again and doing it a different way etc. I think maybe you should consider waiting a few months and seeing if you still want to have a renewal of vows and/or an anniversary party. Not saying that your mind will change, but it could. That's my 2 cents

I know I've thought about the whole renewal of vows and doing it different like going away and doing it on an island like we originally considered, but we would do that on our own, not with our entire set of families and friends. Again, that's just us. I think a lot of what the ladies have said above will be what your family and friends are thinking too, so keep that in mind also.

I think it's a little obsessive.

I am planning a vow renewal for our first anniversary. However, it will be just me, DH and our puppy on the beach. I found an officiant in Key West and I am doing it as a surprise for DH since that is what he really wanted to do in the first place - I was the one who wanted the big wedding

Anyway, my parents had a vow renewal in Church for their 25th anniversary then we all just went out for a nice dinner

I have never been to another one - I always wonder if you are supposed to bring gifts???

That's exactly what I was thinking. I've heard of couples who go away on a first anniversary trip and just renew their vows on the beach or something, just you and DH so it's completely intimate, but not ANOTHER party. I feel it's a little too much....you just got married and you're going to ask your friends and family to celebrate you and DH again? The sentiment is lovely, but I feel something left best to only you and your DH to celebrate with each other.

Ditto. Ive never heard of doing this for the 1yr anniversary. I thought for 1yr you usually just go out and celebrate..the two of you.

We're planning on the same thing but for our 5 year because we didn't have the money to go away this year or the time. Just us and a beach and a white sundress OR Vegas if we're feelign feisty . We did the huge wedding for our families not for us.

Tilde we want to see pics when you do the reknewals!

Also....didn't you tell me before the wedding that you would have no money left over even for Thank You cards?.....another party worthy of your wedding dress might be a little hard to pull of then no?
