Have you ever been to a 'renewal of vows? '

Original post by the future mrs m

James and I can't wait to renew our vows next year and plan a different type of celebration than the one we already had. Our wedding was a blast but I really can't wait to put my dress on again!

Do you think it is ok to have it when the weather warms up rather than on our actual wedding date so we can have it in our backyard?

I am already gathering ideas for the type of party we want to have.

--maybe something sweet at home on our anniversary w/ a replica of our cake.
Any ideas? Have you planned anything like this?
thanks ladies..

One thing to consider is this - you got married just over a month ago and are still on that Newlywed 'high' - who DIDN'T want to wear their dress again right after the wedding? I know I did! Also, it's so great to think about celebrating again and doing it a different way etc. I think maybe you should consider waiting a few months and seeing if you still want to have a renewal of vows and/or an anniversary party. Not saying that your mind will change, but it could. That's my 2 cents

I know I've thought about the whole renewal of vows and doing it different like going away and doing it on an island like we originally considered, but we would do that on our own, not with our entire set of families and friends. Again, that's just us. I think a lot of what the ladies have said above will be what your family and friends are thinking too, so keep that in mind also.

Also....didn't you tell me before the wedding that you would have no money left over even for Thank You cards?.....another party worthy of your wedding dress might be a little hard to pull of then no?

omg.. I think that was a bit harsh. Let's leave personal financial issues out of this... I'm like this just reading it and it isn't even me

That definitely wasn't me.. my thank you cards are fabulous! :)

I guess personality wise I'm a bit different from many people and I love parties and our friends and families love attending them (especially when we don't want any gifts). I spoke to dh and he agrees --we are having some sort of celebration on our 1st anniversary. We are thinking of a garden party at our home. I am known for having big parties and theme celebrations so no one who knows me well would be a bit surprised.

thank you lovely ladies for all of your advice, though :)

I never said that. Perhaps she had me confused with someone else. I pray and thank God that money wasn't an issue when it came to my wedding. But even if I did say that I think it would be rude for the poster to have broadcasted something like that, anyway. I am a positive person and always give the benefit of the doubt. I assume Peteysbride meant no harm. It all rolls off my back like cool rain drops on a hot summer day.

oh, I thought you were asking specifically about renewing vows not a big party. I'm confused. Don't mind me.. It's technically Monday..

However, a huge celebration sounds wonderful. Everyone says the first year is always the toughest, might as well celebrate it with a bang!

lol..no huge celebration here. I was thinking maybe 25-35 of our friends and close family. Putting on our recent wedding was fun but I think this will be much much much less stressful. No bridesmaids or any of that. Just our favorite photographer shira, food, cake (cupcakes maybe), music, etc... people who love you are always ready to celebrate with you is what i think. we aren't asking for anything except their company and good wishes. I think having it as our anniversary party and saying a renewal passage to each other will be nice. My dad use to say 'everyday should be sunday, so be grateful and celebrate.'

I have never been to one, but think its very sweet! is this a tradition with your family? My DH and I might renew our vows with his family priest on our 1 year because we were not married in the catholic church. I dont think we would have a party though, but Im sure a nice dinner would be involved!

That is such a great idea!!! We are thinking of renewing our vows for our fifth year anniversary because that is when our anniversary falls on a saturday again and having our ceremony at the church we attend. We got married at West Sayville Country Club and had a spiritual ceremony because I am epsicopalian and Michael is Jewish. We both would like to renew our vows at St. Ann's Epsicopal Church in five years. This is the church that I christened in and we attend every sunday.

I think your idea is wonderful. Have fun with it and include some special moments from your wedding!!!
