Having your parents live with you..thoughts?

Im just curious....

Would you ever allow your parents to move in with you? And I mean if you had a house with a private basement..not live in a room next to you. Also, I am not saying if your parents had no place to go would you take them. Lets say your parents could afford their own place but wanted to live with you and DH...would you allow it? Please explain..

We moved in w/them - we have the first floor of a house, and they have the 2nd. My parents are very private. I can't imagine that would change if the house ownership situation were reversed. Plus if I run out of olive oil or toilet paper I just take theirs.

i am laughing bc i have olive oil and milk in a little tupperware in my apt. bc i stole some of my mom's LOL hopefully no one comes over for coffee and i have to offer them a bowl of milk for it!

i did it, me and DH lived with his parents in their house...they soo graciously offered, and DH and i got convinced in to accepting it, and it was the WORST THING EVER. i now hate MIL, because ive lived with her and she has meddled in to everything...gross. i dont recommend any married couple to live with parents unless it is a huge two family house or some sort of estate actually no not that either. DH's parents house is veryyy big. we thought we'd have privacy, and all but it turned out to be a disaster and put a bring strain on our marriage. I kind of think it depends on the individual and the mind set of the parents. Some parents are laid back, draw lines and respect privacy. Others knock on your door all the time (dhs mom).

If we had a house and my parents needed to live with us for some reason, I would let them. I wouldnt put them in a basement, but hopefully we would have an extra space for them. As an alternative, I would hope to have enough moeny or that they would have enough to be able to get a condo near us.

I don't forsee my parents moving to NY though. LOL. They JUST ought a new house and will probably one day move down south. And I think they are against living with their kids. LOL. They had us for 18 years. Of course for health reasons that can change things down the line.
