Hands down health insurance... my brother just had his appendix out - no insurance and he got a bill for $25k just for the hospital...

I work in the health care field and I always find stories like this so ridiculous! There are so many patients getting free health services and never have to pay (or actually have a job) for their services. Then, we stick other people with 25K bills for their hospital visits. Sorry, I get all worked up over this stuff!

I also work in the health care industry and I also ALWAYS hear stories of disporportionate cost/coverage.

GO HEALTH INS. In all liklihood DH won't even need it...but having it is worth WAY MORE than 3k in terms of peace of mind!

A simple visit to a PCP doc can been hundreds, thousands...with no coverage. Nevermind an actual emergency like an appendectomy.

And he hasn't even gotten the bill from the anesthesiologist or the surgeon himself. I feel terrible for him. He's 20 and working at a restaurant but because he's not in school full time he can't go on my parent's insurance.

But really $3k over the course of a year after tax is probably less than $50/week.

Re: health insurance vs. raise

definitely health insurance. no question about it. Health insurance and good benefits is more important IMO than a raise.
