I got married last year and my best friend did this awesome candle thing with a special poem at my shower, you know, the one where you get candles of different colors that you light on special days of you life.....Heard of it? Anyway, now she's getting marriend and I want to do something special like that for her at her shower, but obviously not the same thing. Please help!!! Someone give me good ideas. I'm totally clueless. Thanks!

Re: Help for a friend!!!
there's a poem out there, where you buy all cleaning products...you buy like 'Joy' and oh jeez I forget! Try doing a search for it. I think Ive heard people do something with christmas ornaments too.

Re: Help for a friend!!!
Some girls talk about some tree that has 12 (or so) ornaments that they were given for their shower. It's their favorite gift. The ornaments each mean something. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Re: Help for a friend!!!
Found it:
The most thoughtful gift I received from my bridal shower was the 12 bride's ornaments:
Bride’s Christmas Tree A lovely tradition from Germany is the “Bride's Tree”. It is believed that a couple's Christmas tree needs twelve specific ornaments for happiness in their life journey together. The twelve ornaments & what they symbolize are:
Fish ~ Represents Christ's blessing Teapot ~ Represents hospitality Bird ~ Symbolizes joy & happiness Angel ~ Symbol of God’s guidance Rabbit ~ Reflects hope & peace with nature Fruit ~ Symbolizes generosity & plenty Heart ~ Symbol of true love & love in the home Pine Cone ~ Represents fruitfulness, eternity, motherhood & fertility Flowers ~ Symbol of good wishes & beauty in the home Rose ~ Symbol of beauty & affection House ~ Represents protection & family shelter Santa ~ Symbol of goodwill, giving & sharing

Re: Help for a friend!!!
Thanks, that's a help. It's a cute idea. Any ideas of how to search the internet for these ideas??? I try searching for bridal shower gift ideas, but just real presents come up, nothing cute or sentimental.

See if you can search for it on the regular boards and FM the girls that were talking about it. Try Tree AND shower or Christmas AND tree AND shower. That should help.

Re: Help for a friend!!!
Here are some creative shower gifts from an old thread.
ETA: My brother's girlfriend also gave us a scrapbook with love and marriage quotes, and inside were gift cards to restaurants and movies, etc. She called it the 'newlywed's date book' since she figured we'd be short on cash our first year married. We have used it regularly. It was probably my most memorable gift.

Re: Help for a friend!!!
There are candles to burn on Christmas Eve before bed your first together, that's why they are RED. The WHITE ones burn first, to celebrate the first night in your new chosen place. The BURGANDY candles are taller and thinner; they are to burn with your first company for dinner. SILVER is for the big 25 that will keep you alive. The BLUE candles are for your first fight. Use them to burn when making up at night. When your first year is through, light the CREAM anniversary pair for the two of you. The PINK candles will pave the way for your first married Valentine's Day. Use the LIGHT BLUE candles for the fifth anniversary day. By this time, we hope that maybe you can burn the YELLOW ones for the birth of your new baby.

Re: Help for a friend!!!
Here is the poem I found....
A Basket of Candles For bride name
A basket of candles That come in a pair In all different colors, For you two to share The white ones burn first They are wrapped in white lace To celebrate your first married night In your new chosen place The green pair is taller, and also much thinner Burn with the first company, you have over for dinner The dark blue candles are for after your first fight Use them to burn while making up all night Pink candles set the mood and pave the way For your first married Valentine's Day Now, when your first year of marriage is through The cream anniversary pair, will light for you two. Red candles aflame, both your futures are bright. Celebrate promotions you've worked toward with all of your might. By this time we hope, maybe, just maybe You can light the purple ones, on the birth of your baby, And just when you thought, you'd put these away Take the light blue ones out-for your fifth anniversary day. Now just one more pair left-for the big 2 5 The anniversary pair that will keep your love alive Congratulations bride & groom May the two of you always be happy together And burn these candles Just the way we said But please don't forget-blow them out before bed!
With love, Your bridal party
