Help me choose...

Help me choose...

Ok DH and I have decided to go away Saturday night for my bday. We found great rates on Montauk Manor and the Waldorf Astoria in the city...I know they are so different.

It is going to be rainy, so Montauk has an indoor pool, not sure what we would do in the city. Just looking for one nice night away.

Up for suggestions on other places too....

I picked MM - it's a beautiful hotel. Plus I am biased since I go into the city everyday, I don't like going in on the weekends.

Id go with the city, because I MISS THE CITY I was a 'city girl' till I moved out here. Although I do LOVE the lifestyle out here, city-life should be part of EVERYONES life even once a month...

Depending on what your day-to-day routine is like, you either want one extreme or the other. Right now suburbia is my day-to-day so a little city-life would be AWESOME right now
MAybe see a Broadway show, go to some of your favorite spots in the city...
I feel like a tourist that wants to see the skyscrapers again
and my hubby is an ANTI-city person, so that doesnt help me much. IT also depends on what your hubby would like to do or not like to do (hopefully your tastes can meet in the middle! )

Being my total opposite, going to the city would be my hubby's worst nightmare period. He will go into the city only if there is a MUST, (such as me buying tickets that are non-refundable )

(Didja HAVE TO Get me started?

Which are you leaning towards?

Anna - my DH is the same as you. He loves the city!! He'll come in just to meet me for lunch if he has off and I don't.

I love Montauk, but there wont be much to do. I have never spent the night in the city either. Hubby is in the city all the time, so I think he is leaning the other way. However, it is my choice this time.

Don't know anything about MM, but I can tell you that the Waldorf is highly overrated and VERY touristy....not to mention the rooms are tiny....Just a thought to keep in mind...
Have fun whatever you decide!!!

I dont know anything about the MM but Sage is right about the Waldorf. Its overated.

But having said that, I think its something that is fun to do once in your life. Particularily if you dont spend much time in NYC, its great to be able to just walk around and enjoy the area. Even when its rainy, there is tons to do.

not to be completely mushy - but i love the city in the rain!! there is so much to do - the museum of natural history is my fav. there is something very romantic about huddling under an umbrella in NYC together.

I would say the city, since you do not go there that often.

I really am not a big fan of the Waldorf, and to me the food there is way average.

I stayed at the Hilton on sixth avenue once and it was really nice - big rooms. It's right near rockefeller center. They have reasonable rates for this weekend if you want NYC but not necessarily the WA (based on the reviews above - I have never stayed there).

When is your bday?

DH and I stayed in a suite at the Waldorf back in November.. it was fabulous..I LOVED it.. we also had dinner in the city and saw Blue Man Group..

I also highly recomment the Palace Hotel.. I LOVE it there too!

Is there another city hotel that you might like? What about 'W'? I have stayed at the Waldorf & I was not entirely thrilled. If you don't mind splurging, the new Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle is absolutely amazing.

I would choose Montauk if it was spring or summer. Since it is winter, I definetely would choose the city. There will be so much for you to do there. I dont know much of what you can do in Montauk in the winter.
