Help me come up with great anniversary party ideas!!!!

For im IL'S 35th anniversary!

So far I think I am going to have invitations printed up with one of my IL'S wedding pictures on it.

I am going to have pictures of the 2 of them blown up ( HUGE) from their wedding, our wedding, and my sil's wedding and have them hanging from the cieling of the hall

They dont remember their first dance song and their wedding video does not have sound so I am going to have to pick an old Italian love song for them to dance to

Any Ideas are really welcome!!!

anything that will make the party unique and special!!

Im not sure how formal of an affair it will be but here are some ideas that spring to mind:

a) a table full of photos...maybe one from each year of their lives?... that are lined up in order so people can see through the years.
b) on the back of the menus or maybe just a little booklet on each table that refers back to facts about the year they were married. Like the price of a car, who was president, #1 show on television etc...
c)Pick a color scheme and go with that for most things...you could pick coral (the traditional gift for a 35th anniversary) or emereld (the modern 35th anniversary gift).
d) Have each child write the parents a special toast and thank you to give it at the party.

Thanks you gave me some good ideas!!! I love the idea of having a little booklet with the price of a car, and all that other stuff but they were married in Italy. Do you think that matters?

They arent big 'picture people' so their wedding, my wedding and my sil's upcoming wedding are where I will be able to get most of my pictures from. They are going on a cruise in November... I will have to poke around and see what I could find.


Its so sad I wish my parents were still together!! I found a copy of their wedding invitations from 25 years ago and a copy of the menu with their choices circled!!!!

I dont think it matters where they got married if you are doing the comparison from 1970. Its just a conversation starter to get people thinking about just how long 35 years is, you know.

Just a suggestion but I wouldnt blow up current photos of them. Huge photos cost a lot so you could probably put that money to better use in other stuff and since the photos are current, it doesnt do much to enforce the 35th anniversary concept.

To find more photos, you could probably call up other relatives and ask if they have photos of them from their weddings, parties, holidays. Even if they dont take photos of themselves, Im sure someone was.

Or if you dont want to do the photos, you could do some sort of big timeline. Starting the year they met and ending the day of the party...in between you can note moves, births, job changes, events in history, etc..

What if you put a huge timeline on the wall, with certain big dates already on it and let guests fill in significant dates too? Like when they met your inlaws or big trips or family mile stones too? It could be sort of like a guest book they could save and look at from time to time. Just a thought.
