DH and I have been invited to a very distant out of town relative's wedding.
We will NOT be attending. We have another wedding just the week before for a very close relative, which is also out of town.
After sitting down, discussing our finances and feelings, we have decided NOT to attend this second relatives wedding, all the way on a different coast. NOt attending the wedding has caused some conflict with our immediate family, but we are sticking to our decision.
I NEED HELP WORDING THE RSVP IN A CLASSY way that explains the situation.
I am thinking of:
Dear ......
Unfortunately, we will not be able to attend your wedding. With several other events going on in the month, we simply cannot swing it this year. However, we will be thinking of you the entire day and look forward to hearing about your special day. Love, *******************
and of course, we will send a gift.
Did anyone write a particularly nice rejection RSVP to you that you can let me copy? Thanks

Re: Help Me Please....
I am not much help, but I can say what you have sounds pretty good. My question is, the two weddings, are they relatives of each other? I mean, will the one you're not going to know you're going to the other one?

nope....they would NEVER know. One is on DH's side, and one is on my side, and there is no way they could ever know.

Re: Help Me Please....
i think what you wrote is just fine. its you and dh's decision and ultimately, youre not doing it to be rude or hurtful, so you dont owe any explanation to other family members getting upset....just a nice note to the couple suffices and your gift is another nice touch as well.

I'm sorry your family is giving you a hard time about this. It really stinks.
I think that is a very nice note and will be very much appreciated by the bride and groom.

Re: Help Me Please....
I had to right the 'rejection' rsvp to DH's cousin. I don't remember exactly what I said but it was something about how we were really sad that we wouldn't be able to attend but that we would be thinking of them on thier special day.

I think that's perfect. It seems genuine and heartfelt. I would believe that you were truly sorry you had to miss the wedding not that you were just saying that.

we actually didn't get any explanations when people rsvp'd no (and I would have liked one in some cases), so I think the fact that you're writing a note at all is really nice. I think it's well worded.

Ditto. It really pissed me off in a few instances

I think what you have is nice. We got a Declined RSVP from my dad's cousins in FL. I saved all of them and this is what it said...
We are sorry that we will not be able to be with you on your wedding day. Please know that we wish you much happiness and will be thinking of you on your special day.
