How am I suppossed to store this in the freezer for 1 year? So far I have it in saran wrap, followed by alluminum foil, then in a box, then in a plastic bag.
Is this enough? I really am NOT kidding, I want to make sure it preserves.

Re: Help me with my cake please...........
that's what I did, but I think it's most important to do this asap after the wedding - is it already in the freezer?
I'll let you know how mine is in a little under 4 months

We put ours in a freezer container and I can see the freezer burn on it.

Re: Help me with my cake please...........
Mine was wrapped in foil and in a freezer bag, and then in Tupperware, and it tasted like old cake.
Someone (Claud maybe??) said their cake was delicious after a year... you need to talk to that person!

You can laugh... it WAS pretty funny because I forced Patrick to eat it! I was afraid we'd end up divorced otherwise.

LOL!
I'll eat mine too even if it's JUST one bite, and tastes bad, then garbage!

Re: Help me with my cake please...........
We had our cake last month, and it tasted okay. Not as good as it did on the day of hte wedding, but edible nonetheless.
We first wrapped it in saran wrap, then in foil, and insulated that again with saran wrap before putting it in a freezer baggie. It was not freezer-burned at all and we enjoyed it. The cake part was still moist but not as tasty.
Here's how ours looked when we opened it up after a year:
Yes, JennR, it was me! Our cake was delicious, even after a year...it was wrapped in multiple layers of plastic wrap and plastic bags. But, I think what truly *preserved* our cake was the fondant icing - this protected the cake from getting freezer burnt and held the moisture.

Re: Help me with my cake please...........
Our cake was so good that when we got back to my parents house the day after the wedding we all dug into the top! We couldn't let it go to waste knowing that it would probably taste terrible by next year. I think my mom did freeze a piece of it for us, but I can't remember.

Re: Help me with my cake please...........
My mom took it home and wrapped it when we were on our honeymoon. I should have known better! We transferred it into our freezer where it took up space for a year. When we finally opened it, we saw that she just threw it in a container and froze it with the fresh flowers on top! It smelled RANCID!! UGH! And I gave up my freeezer space for that!!

Re: Help me with my cake please...........
we had ours warpped in heavy-duty foil (2 layers) then the box, then wrapped the box in a plastic bag.
It tasted pretty good, but I think it was the fondant that saved the cake, creating a barrier and keeping it moist. The fondant itself tasted a bit like the freezer, so we ate around that.

Liz: make you sure you wrap in many layers of foil and plastic, and then place in a container. Good luck

I wrapped mine similar - in layers. We just had it last weekend. It tasted okay, but I couldn't eat more then a bite of it, just knowing it was 1 year old

Re: Help me with my cake please...........
We had our last night, and it tasted great - granted its only been 3 or 4 weeks, but I figured it would be awful in a year, and I never got to taste it at the wedding.
