Help! Name change

How do I go about changing my last name and where do I start. If I take my husbands last name do I change my bank accounts to my new last name too?

First I went to dmv.

then the bank.

then social security a few weeks later.

i also started with dmv and then my job so they can change payroll. i havent changed with ss yet but i will soon lol

i started with my job and had them change all of my paperwork and email accounts witht hem.....then i changed my credit cards and bank accounts.....i still have to do social security and DMV and the rest of them....

I went to SS first. There were some people there who were having problems with DMV because they didn't change SS. Apparently, DMV, SS and IRS computers all interface now and all the information has to be the same or it will get kicked back (someone couldn't renew their driver's license because the info wasn't the same). They said it could also trigger an IRS audit!!!

I did the SS first, then the DMV, then my job, then my bank. I also just mailed in the passport stuff.

I did my bank accounts first, then DMV, SS, insurance, credit cards, the personell department at work, and then little by little, things I had forgotten abou that aren't too much of a big deal.

After you get your marriage license, go to the DMV and Social Security first.

Then you can do your bank, credit cards, any loans, mortgage (if you have one) medical insurance, life insurance, eBay name, PayPal name (any other online services you use).

And just when you think you changed everything, something else comes in the mail that you forgot to do!
