Help - UTI

Help - UTI

Ladies, I am certain that I have a UTI (have had before, but nor for some time). I don't have a doctor that I can get to over the weekend, and have to work all weekend.

Any suggestions?

I have Cipro and Amoxycillin in the house, any thoughts as to either of those would help? I am googling, but thought I'd try you ladies too.

Can you get those iodine pills? I think Azo makes them and they're OTC -- they're the ones that turn your pee yellow (sorry for the visual). Those work amazing for cutting down the pain until you can get to the doctor for the appropriate meds.

In the past (and once when I didn't have insurance) I actually just took those for a few days to cut out the pain and drank a TON of cranberry juice and found it went away on its own. I know it's not the best thing to do, but sometimes you have to.

Those iodine pills should help until you can see the doctor next week. Just remember to wear a panty liner while you're taking them.

oh gosh I'm sorry.....I got a UTI while we were on our honeymoon.

Usually if you call your doctors office they leave a message with the on-call doctor's number/pager. In the past I've had prescriptions called in immediately that way. Make sure you have your pharmacy's number on hand for when you talk to the doctor.

Drink cranberry juice! It's a natural remedy.

Go on webmd.com , you might be able to come across more info.

Good luck!!

Thanks - I recently moved to CT and have a doctor here but they only met me twice, and the message doesn't say anything about on call - message is go to ER if emergency. Nice. Might need to find a larger practice.

I did some webmd, etc research and it seems like Cipro is the drug of choice (which sounds right, I just haven't had one in so long), so I am going to take one tonight, and I have leftover pain killers.

The sad part is that I most definitely did not get the UTI the 'fun way.'

Thanks! Hopefully I can find a drugstore open early tomorrow AM, I have to be in at 9. A research project for tonight is to find one!

Laughing at the pantiliner reminder - so true.

Re: Help - UTI

Seriously when I got mine, it was halfway of our honeymoon and we were on an overnight train from Paris to Italy! When we arrived in Florence I was in so much pain, I couldn't walk, sit, pee, anything! Thankfully we went into a pharmacy and DH speaks Italian, they gave us these pills. Neither of us knew what the hell they were. Kinda dangerous, but it was so severe I didn't care. Within a few hours I started feeling better, after 24 hours the symptoms went away.

We saved the pills 'just in case' but who knows what kind of renegade pills they are.

They were life saving and that's all that mattered!

Feel better

Drink cranberry juice. It will help. I only had a UTI once but I did not go on meds for it, I drank cranberry juice and it went away.

Now i drink it whenever I feel like one might be coming on. I haven't had one since freshmen year of college, 1999.

You can take Cipro for the UTI- Take a look at this article: http://www.aafp.org/afp/2005/0801/p451.html

You should give you Drs office a call and see what they recommend.

Thanks! I started the Cipro that I had last night, feel better already, but am going to try to be seen today if possible, if not, then Monday.

I had to come in to work to prepare for a trial, but at least I am not in unbearable pain anymore.

I get these from time to time. I am not a believer of antibiotics everytime I get something. So, with that said, when I feel one coming on, I drink tons of water and unsweetened cranberry juice. I buy the organic one from Trader Joes.
