Help with my dog....

My dog has been vomiting for a couple of days now. A couple of times a day. Not sure what is wrong, but I am worried about her. She sometimes vomits when she doesn't eat, but it's happening more than usual and she has been eating. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm trying not to run to the vet with her b/c I always do and they never help and is just costs tons of $$$ for nothing.

Re: Help with my dog....

I don't know what could be wrong but if it has been going on for a couple of days, I would bring her to the vet. If you are not satisfied with your current vet, then I would go somewhere else. Post what town you are looking in and I'm sure someone can recommend a good one.
Hope everything is ok. Please let us know what happens.

Re: Help with my dog....

I live in San Diego, so I know everyone wouldn't have a vet they can recommend. But thanks! I just spoke with my vet and he said to give her a little pepcid ac to help her stomach and maybe a little bland canned dog food or chicken rice through the weekend.

Re: Help with my dog....

The dog may have a stomach bug or may have eaten something that upset it. Hope your dog is feeling better soon.

Re: Help with my dog....

We have two cats. One of our cats is constantly throwing up his food because he's a pig and doesn't chew it. He is very heavy.

Re: Help with my dog....

I swear that is why the cat is always throwing up.
He overeats and woofs down his food so fast, that he gets sick.

Re: Help with my dog....

THis happened to me a while back where for a whole day she vomited. I never found out what was wrong. She was diagnosed with Cushings disease since then ( vomiting is not a symtom) but now the Cushings test is normal. We dont know if it is due to her medication. I did find a fabulous place in Westbury. It is a big facility to take you animal if your animal has a condition that needs to be treated other than regular shots, etc. If anyone wants the info, let me know.

Re: Help with my dog....

My dog was throwing up and having diarrhea, so we took her to the vet, and she said that it can happen when the dog is stressed. She was at the groomer the day before, and my mom was away for a few days before that. (This dog is SO attached to my mom), so the 'emotional stress' must have been too much for her..What a hard life my little poochie has!

Re: Help with my dog....

Actually, now that you say it, I think the vomiting started after my dog went to the groomer. But it always seems my dog likes going to the groomer so I'm not sure if it was stressful for her. I gave her pepcid ac per the vet and need to give her a bland diet.

Re: Help with my dog....

Any time an animal throws up, it's not good...something is irritating the stomach...whether it's something bad they ate (my cat has a habit of eating dried plant leaves...and he throws it right back up), virus, irritable bowel disease, bacteria, or
a foreign object.

A foreign object will kill an animal if it is not passed (usually, if the animal is vomiting, the object can't pass)...and I've seen and FI have seen MANY of these cases, in animals all ages and all species.

I wouldn't mess around with a vomiting animal.

There is pet insurance, I know most of our friends who are getting puppies and kittens are purchasing it, the cost is low compared to all the vet bills...and for cases where an animal does have a foreign object and needs surgery, the insurance will cover the expenses.

FI isn't home now, but I will find the name of the company he deals with.

I hope your dog is better soon

Re: Help with my dog....

If your dog throws up due to stress from going to the groomer, I'd mention this to your vet., and maybe he'll give you a light tranquilizer for you dog, so that he doesn't get this scared and stressed to the point of vomiting.

Re: Help with my dog....

This happened with my dog for a while also. The vet said to feed her rice (to bind her).

After she was regular again he said to avoid table food. She has a nervous stomach and it seems would be like this anytime her schedule was changed.

I would, however, take her to the vet, or call a vet and ask....

Hope she is ok.

Re: Help with my dog....

The last time i sent my little one to the vet he came home and threw up and had diarea all over.. i felt so bad for him, i waited the day and the next day he was fine, but he was so skiddish (sp?) for like 1 week after that.. i have been going to the same groomer for a long time and i love them and nothing like this happened before.. so naturally i am nervous now about bringing him back.
