Hey. does anyone need...(DIGGING OUT FROM UNDER)

Would you believe that I still have shower/congratualtion/engagement presents that are brand new, not out of the box, and I haven't been able to put them to use? I am sorta anti-clutter since my mom was a pack rat..so I was hoping SOMEONE I knew would get married soon!

Any of you out there still holding on to these items? (I dont think I will need to buy a picture frame/crystal vase/crystal candy dish for the next 25 years!)

Not to sound ungrateful, but I need to find homes for these items.
Had one very remote friend send us a Micky & MInnie cake topper 2 months after the wedding (Mickey=Not our style)
It is beautiful- just not us. Any one know someone who may want it?

What have you all encountered?

I have the matching Mickey & Minnie picture frame. If you find a home for your cake topper let me know and I'll throw in the frame.

I have 2 of those white satin covered, laced edged photo albums. Just a feeling but...I also got a few gifts from people who have gotten married in the past few years that I am kind of guessing that they got as wedding gifts and are passing along - a knife and serving set from an out of town friend (received after the wedding), a set of white towels, to name a few. I think I`d feel a little odd giving these things to someone else as gifts although I too would love to get them off the shelf. My husband`s realtives in Ireland all gave gifts, some beautiful stuff but then we got these china pitchers that...well, to be gentle, are just not my taste. I have no idea what to do with this stuff either LOL

Ugh!!! I hear you! I have so m uch stuff, even nice beautiful and thoughtful gifts that I have no place for. I have the ROOM, just no shelf or hutch, etc to display. Everytime some comes to visit I have to run around unpacking their bowls, wine glasses, frames, plaques, etc to put out just to not seem ungrateful.
But i totally understand you do get TOO much of that type of stuff.

PHyl, forget about Mickey- what good is a cake topper after the wedding?

After 2years of marriage, I still have a ton of stuff brand new in the boxes! Is it tacky to sell it on ebay???

Just a thought.....

You may want to try to sell them on e-bay if you don't find a home for them and you don't think the person who gave them to you will be looking around next time they come over.

If you post this message on the brides board you may find some homes for this stuff.

Im sure there is someone out there who would love a Mickey Cake Topper.

As far as selling it on ebay, its probably not the proper thing to do but you will probably end up throwing it out anyways so you might as well try to sell it!

Hey, KGB...that's not sad!

I too, have a very good friend that would not only LOVE the Mickey & Minnie cake topper, but the picture frame too. In fact, I can almost guarantee that she'll want her some-day groom to wear the Mickey patterned vest and tie with his tuxedo at their wedding - (I am not kidding!)

However, she's not engaged or even dating anyone exclusively right now, so it would be kinda silly for me to buy these items for her. I hope that your friend really enjoys them!! :)

I think it's cute. She's totally obsessed.

oh i can relate here..After moving into my new house (my mother was very happy to get her basement back) All my gifts have found there home in my guest room closet. My DH wanted all these Wilton Bowls and platter and Now i have no idea where is am going to put it.
I also received a Lenox picture box as a gift- I did not register for any lenox and Now I have no idea where i am going to put it since everything else is silver and Crystal.
I still think the best gift I got was from my Husbands best friend..
He bought us STEAKS from Omaha steaks for our engagement present. I don't think I even laughed so hard....

I really want to know what people think when they buy a gift..this is why we all registered right??

In the same boat...

All my stuff is still 'in storage' in my parent's basement too. They cannot wait until we buy a house and can unload all the stuff off of them!

One of the most memorable engagement gifts I got was a pair of crystal salt & pepper shakers - shaped like elephants!!! We just came across them the other day, and I think my husband threw them away! Ha!

Ok .....So what Didn't you get that you needed

Believe it or not I registered for a Blender and did not get one. Everytime I see that commercial with the bride opening up blender #4 I crack up.

In the same boat.....long...sorry ! :)

Its funny that this message trail has been started, because i`ve been thinking about posting on this topic also... Since ive been unemployed, I`ve been doing alot of re-organizing, de-cluttering and alot of 'what do i do with this ???'
and in my case, its from wedding related gifts to used books and clothes ! ARG!

My pet peeve is seeing something go to waste. Throwing something out that is still useful. This pet peeve makes me crazy because it takes me forever to get through a pile of clutter because I have to think of who could make use of this item. Used books-the library. Used clothes-throw them in those bins for those that need clothing. (or theres also a number where they come pick it up from your front door). or ask friends and siblings if they might want them...ya never know ! Sometimes I need my sister there saying 'Throw it all out!' I Wish i could be like that but i just cant !!!

As far as wedding items, I have a few things that I`d like to return to Fortunoff (brand new, unopened) and I asked a saleslady there a few months ago (it was one year since I got married) and she looked at me like I was crazy! Not for nothing, everyone has lenient policies nowadays, and many brides keep things in storage as they get their living situations together, and a year later realize they want to return it. I would return it and say it was a gift, but our names are on their registry.... They have very strict policies..ridiculous...

Are any of you ladies organizing gurus and have tips on organizing closets ? (as far as the basement, extra bath and bedding items), souvenirs from trips (UGHHH!!!!!), favors from showers ( UGH UGH UGH UGHHHHHHHHHH) etc.......
ITs nice to put frames out, but too much is too much !

PS - Mickey`s the best !!!

thanks girls !

What I didn't get...

There's so much stuff on my registries that I didn't get and I was disappointed. I have even asked for registry items for my birthday and for Christmas, and still did not get them!

I didn't get the snack tables or bed trays that I registered for.

Also, I was very disappointed that alot of the small household appliances I wanted went unpurchased...like the ScumBuster (I was dying to have that for cleaning the tub and shower!!), Dustbuster, toaster oven, iron, etc. Instead, I got a lot of 'homemade' gifts, which are nice thoughts at the time - but over time, they will become clutter and just collect dust in my home, instead of helping me clean it!! Arrrggghhhh!!

I think people take registries for granted, and think that some brides just load it up with things that they want, not really need. However, I really needed many of those items to make my household chores easier and less time-consuming. Someone, (who gave me a homemade gift) even had the nerve to refer to the items on my registry as 'junk'!! How rude!!!

Fortunoffs does give you a year after your wedding..they just won't give casj anymore...they don't tell you this but you have to ask one of the experienced salespeople.

Kate- cake topper

Read your comment and almost fell off the seat laughing!
You are SO right...but like I said, she was not a close friend at all.

I didnt' post this in the beginning cuz i know that there are rules on this site and the brides site about selling things...so I hestitated.

I still have one baox ofc favors..but they are glass votives ( flower shaped) with a vanilla candle and our 'wedding date ribbon' so I dont mind those at all. I love the scent of Vanilla candles!
