So I want to make a really nice dinner for the IL's and of course DH tomorrow. We are all celebrating together. I wanted to originally do a pork chop, but MIL informed me last night that FIL doesn't like them. (Even though I text'd him and asked him and he said yes) so now I don't know what else to do. I am not a big meat eater, I only really eat chicken. If I do eat meat , its on the grill and I don't have a grill right now.
Anyone have any ideas??? I want to get something decent. Like, I want to go to the Karl Ehmer butcher down the block and get a nice piece of meat for a decent price. I was thinking filet mignon, but I am not that experienced and I don't want to ruin it.
Any help would be appreciated. :) Thanks!

Re: hmmm meat help? lol
Filet can be expensive- I usually order it from Omaha Steaks and its not that bad.
what about a pork loin- very tasty and easy to make

I am not a fan of pork, I just wanted to make pork chops b/c they seemed easy and I had a recipe that called for just using thyme and rosemary and I figured that would be really good.
I wanted to go with beef mainly. I do think the filet can be expensive too, what do you think about a roast beef??? Anyonek now how to cook it lol

I don't have a slow cooker, but someone else suggested this to me today too. That's not a bad idea.

roast beef is good- London Broil in a slow cooker also comes out amazing- if you have a BJS or Costco card- they sell it at a good price.
Is the Karl Ehmers place next to the LIE? I take my grandma there for her hot dogs but she buys her meat at D'Allesandro off of Utopia- she thinks the meat is better & more reasonable

would a pork loin work instead of a pork chop? I like making that when i have people over for dinner. Lasagne is always a crowd pleaser. You can always make a sauce with ground beef or turkey and some italian sausage to zest it up a little.

The Karl Ehmers I was going to go to is right by me in Glendale, off of Myrtle and Cooper. I just want to go to a reputable butcher, rather than just Stop and Shop ya know?
Hmmm d'allesandro right off of the LIE right? I always see the red sign for them on teh side of the building I think.

Hmmm maybe I could do a brisket! I forgot about that.
They don't like corned beef. They are the most picky bunch of people I have ever met lol

wow karl ehmer is still there?? growing up that's where we always got our meat.
I personally would make pasta and not meat... I feel like meat is too easy to overcook and pasta is always a crowd pleaser. You could make a really good meat sauce or maybe even sausage and peppers? Or if you want to make meat a veal roast - my parents would always get one for christmas that was seasoned and just needed to be cooked.

If you end up doing a London Broil, I have an AMAZING marinade for it - its the only way I eat it LOL! Marinade it, and pop it in the broiler - I just made it on Monday, actually! Yummy!!!

Re: hmmm meat help? lol
i like filet and shrimp but that can be pricey
what about a pot roast? beef brisket or a roast beef type piece of meat? you can make it in the slow cooker - make carrots, potatoes, string beans, corn - you can mix everything together kind of like a stew.....or you can do sides - like mashed potatoes, have gravy....
or what about some kind of pasta dish? you can make braciolle (sp?) in red sauce.....or something like that? garlic bread? that is always yummy and inexpensive too....

What about a pot roast? DH loves it when my mom makes it and it's basically juicy and tender...but it takes a long time to cook.
I love cooking roast pork tenderloin.
I agree though with what one of the other girls said..make something u are comfortable with.

Yeah, I never heard of KE until I moved to Queens heh.
I don't want to do pasta b/c that's all they eat! They are so picky, that they wind up eating mac and cheese or spaghetti all the time. that's why I wanted to originally do a meat.
I think the brisket is a good choice. My mom makes a great brisket and I got her recipe, so I think I should be okay. :)
Thanks girls1
