Holiday Traditions?

Holiday Traditions?

What holiday traditions, if any, have you and your DH started?

DH and I decided to exchange a Christmas ornament each year. We decorate our tree with plain ornaments and each year we add the two we've exchanged. We figure in a few years we'll have quite the personalized tree.

What traditions have you started?

PS - I love this cheesy crap!

Re: Holiday Traditions?

I dont know yet lol, usually for x-mas eve we go to church, his mother is in the choir and his whole family goes. Then after we go out to dinner with everybody, then we all head back to his parents house. We have cake and coffee and drinks at the house and all hang out, we usually have a real goo time. Then at midnight we all open gifts. I think for now we are gonna stick to doing this for x-mas eve, i enjoy it and so does he.

This year my mom wants to make x-mas dinner and invite his family over too. But i think in the future i want to host x-mas dinner. We just found out my grandmother is coming next week again to visit, so my mom wants all of us to spend it with my grandmother and having my cousins and everybody over to celebrate with her but she wants to include DH's family too

I am thinking of dh and i having a big x-mas breakfast together. I am trying to quickly think of other things lol

That's cute!

The ornament thing has been great. We have engagement ornaments, ornaments marking when we started golfing together, now wedding ones. I just think it'll be great years down the road to have this tree covered in personalized ornments marking special events/moments/etc.

I Lovee this idea, can I be a copy cat. can you imagine all the incredible ornaments you will have over the years and each with a story.

Well every year we go out to dinner and then get coffee and go to these houses in Brooklyn and Queens with insane decorations. We also used to go to the Jones Beach light show but they don't do that anymore.

We also do a Rockefeller Tree 'drive by'. We both hate the city so we just literally drive in, drive around hte block and look at it - get out and get a pretzel - and then go back home!

Christmas eve, our first one living together, we are going to try something new. We celebrate with my family but we dont eat until about 10PM SO we have the whole day to ourselves. . . i think we are going to spend most of it in PJs and maybe exchange one gift!

DH proposed to me last year when we put up our very first Christmas tree.

So this year we couldnt put the tree up the same day but we did all the same things....listened to the same xmas music cd, had a slow dance, then had hot cocoa and stared at our tree. Also we hung up the little silver piece metal that held my ring...we put a bow on it and altho there is no ornament hanging from it, we still put it up!

hmm, this is our first holiday as a married couple, and we are leaving for CanCun on Christmas Eve!
Ilike this tradition, I'd love to do this for the rest of our lives!
We are Jewish and teachers, so we are going away. I've always spent the first night of chanukah at my parents and we spend another night with his family - his dad's birthday is xmas, so we usually spend that day with him, but he's excusing us this year because of our trip! I'm soooo excited! Its like another honeymoon!

We do something very similar except we pick out our own special ornament together and we date them. So each year we have at least one special ornament that we have personalized. Thats cute though to exchange. It's actually really cool what we noticed this year...2006 we bought our house, 2007 we got engaged and 2008 we got married. It was a very sentimental moment for us when we put up our tree this year and DH's face was priceless.

Dh and I realized we have a tradition last night... We watch 1 christmas related movie each Sunday night from after Thanksgiving till christmas. We didn't realize we were doing it until last night when we started counting the weeks back!
We decided that this is something fun and cute for the 2 of us together.!
