how many houses did you see before you found the one??
we had been looking online for a really long time and this weekend we finally got started. we did a lot of drive-bys and that eliminated a ton of houses on our list based on location, outside appearance, etc... and we did 7 open houses and we found one we both really really love. it's move in ready and everything we wanted, except the kitchen doesnt have as much counter space as i wanted, but its manageable.
we are going to make appts to see a couple more this week and we want to go back to the house we both loved. but do you think we would be jumping into it since we haven't seen too many? it just makes me nervous since its such a big investment, but at the same we don't want to risk losing the house.

Re: homeowners question
We saw close to 100. We actually went into contract two other times, but they both fell through. It was a nightmare, but it all worked out. You just need to be as patient as possible.

Re: homeowners question
We did almost the same thing you did, lots of drive bys. But we fell in love with only the second or third house we saw the inside of too! I think the two extremes (this situation or seeing 100) are more popular than you'd think! If your gut tells you it's right, it probably is! We moved into ours about 6 months ago and are so happy with it and have no regrets that we didn't see a whole bunch more than we did! Just my two cents! :)

Re: homeowners question
Well i owned before marriage & DH owned before as well. So as we search for OUR third home we have seen probably 50/60 homes. Its very hard. I also wont settle. I want very specific areas only & i like a certain type of home. Large Split or Large Hi Ranch.

Re: homeowners question
I don't own a home yet, we have been looking at varying degrees of seriousness for over a year now, and we've probably seen a good 50-60 houses, if not more, between open houses and appointments. We still haven't found 'the one', although there is one we keep going back to but really isn't practical for us. It takes a long time! Especially if you're fussy.

Re: homeowners question
I think we saw around 10-12. I could tell by the pics online what I really liked and what I didn't.
When we found our house, we DEF knew right away. We walked out and said 'we want to live HERE'

Re: homeowners question
We def looked at at least 50 houses… it took us like 7 months to find “the one” and we had put offers on 9 other ones before we got our house! It an be superrrr frustrating but in the end I’m very happy with what we got.

Re: homeowners question
We looked for about 6 months and at tons of houses. Put in two offers that fell through, and in the end got a better house. You have to make compromises, you will never get EVERYTHING you want.

Re: homeowners question
We saw at least 20, if not more, in person (interior) and I can't even keep track with how many we saw online and just did a drive-by. And from the time we officially started looking until when we chose the one we have now, it took over a year to find 'the one.' Sure, we put an offer on another house but they didn't accept and we had to let it go. But it wasn't meant to be. And we saw some really nice ones but out of our price range. It all worked out in the end.

Re: homeowners question
It took us about 60 houses, 6 months (9 months if you count til we actually closed), and in contract 4 times (3 of which fell through) before we found the one (and a lot of stress, aggrivation and tears!). Good luck, and be patient....you will find the one

Re: homeowners question
I feel better that so many people looked at tons of houses too. We started looking January and found our house in April after looking at 100 houses!! Good Luck- take your time! Just when it may seem like you will never find anything- you will...thats what happened to us!

Re: homeowners question
I didn't look at any, my job was wedding planning and DH's job was house hunting and when he found one that he felt was the 'one' then he showed me. Him and his dad went to alot, but we lucked out because someone they knew was selling their parents house, they knew DH was currently looking and they started talking. DH took me to show me and explained all the gutting and rennovating he was going to do before we moved in and I said go for it.
Our house buying process was really quick, I see now with what my sister is going through that we lucked out
