honesty please

honesty please

Ok my company is doing some humanitarian think in Patchouge. They sent out this email about 6 people who were pulled out of a drawing to volunteer. I was one of them

I said no and I feel like everyone is making me feel guilty

Honestly I live in howard beach yeah its only till 3 but I just don’t want to drive all the way there

#2 – volunteering is just not my thing sorry it might sound bittchy but that’s how it is

# 3 – I feel like they went about it all wrong by singling out people and not just sending a general email asking people if they would like too and than choose 6 from that list. Cuz I know if these names weren’t on an email they wouldn’t have volunteered

Am I being a total bittch???

thats a kind of weird way to get ppl to 'volunteer'

id be more upset at the process they went about then your actual response

I think that is a terrible way to get people to 'volunteer' but I would probably do it anyway since I am a sucker...and i like volunteering too

i think i would be angry at the way they 'volunteered' people - i hate that stuff. but i think i would still do it just to show im a good sport with the company.

oh please dont feel guilty, regardless if volunteering is your thing or not, i know how far patchogue is from howard becah and they need to understand its a long drive and regardless of them paying for gas or mileage if they had planned on it, its a long drive and you should not be made to do it unless it was part of your job description

Honestly~ I don't think you're being a biotch. And you should never do what you don't want to do, so don't feel guilty.

YEP.

That is not volunteering at all. I understand you not wanting to, that's a very long drive for you and I think it's ridiculous for them to 'volunteer' you against your will.

I dislike it simply because it's like forcing you to do volunteer work. I'd just s*ck it up and do it anyway, but that is not the best way for them to go about getting volunteers.

No... I'd be just as pissed as you and say nope sorry, cant make it! And find someone asap to fill my place

Honestly I would be annoyed!!! Same thing at my company, my boss 'volunteered' me to do some stupid thing at work and i'm annoyed b/c i don't want to do it. I would tell them that you would prefer for them to give the opportunity to someone who really wants to do it.

I'll be honest..... to hear that 'volunteering is just not your thing' made me feel a little sad. I wish more people would be willing to volunteer for things. It's just a nice way of helping one another out. IMHO. If more people were willing to do things like this... I think we might live in a better place.

BUT I do totally agree with your number 3!! I DEFINITELY think they should have opened it to everyone! They might have more volunteers if they went about it that way instead of hand picking a few people. They might even then have people who want to do it. I assume they did it this way for a reason though??? IDK for sure what their reason is but it is a strange way to go about getting volunteers.

So, all in all... no I do not think you are being a total biitch.

I don't blame you. I mean is this in lieu of going to work or is this on a Saturday? I'm guessing it's a Saturday. And the drive from Howard Beach to Patchogue is far. And the way they picked volunteers is messed up..they should ask for volunteers..that's why it's called volunteer work and not forced work. I don't think your selfish for not wanting to do it.

i get what you are saying but its just me

I completely agree with you in this instance. It's not volunteering when you're being told you have to, just like it's not a donation if it's required. Plus, it would be an inconvenience for you travel wise, so I would decline in this case too. Like if I was forced to go in to Queens or the Bronx from Suffolk, I'd decline. I'm sure the people making you feel guilty are the ones that got out of 'volunteering' too
