Housing Update

Housing Update

So we think we have come up with a plan. As I posted last week, DH got a job in Manhattan and I am working on LI - traveling all over the island, but main office is in Bethpage. So, we can move out of CT and back to LI.

We decided the plan is not to buy our 'forever' house, but buy a house we would be okay staying in for up to 5 years, and then using that time to figure out where on LI we want our 'forever' house to be, and hopefully it will be nicer than what we can currently afford. Then, in a few years we can buy elsewhere but hold this first house as a rental if so inclined.

We are leaning towards Long Beach, and have a friend pushing us towards East Atlantic Beach in particular. Anyone have any experiences, recommendations, etc.? there is not too much on the market in East Atlantic Beach. Any broker recommendations, etc.?

We are thinking it would be really fun to live a few houses from the beach for a few years, since when else in life will we have that opportunity. When we take vacation, we can just stay home, since we'd live at a gorgeous beach.

I have spent a lot of time in LB, and know how quiet it is in the winter, and how crazy it can get during the summer.

I guess I just wanted your thoughts - all of our friends have a bias when we discuss it with them.

Re: Housing Update

My BIL has a coop in Long Beach 1 block from the water and he works on LI so its great for him. I LOVE it there but here's the thing. We live in NYC (UES) and it's a real trip when we go visit him. Keep in mind it takes us 40mins by train to get to penn but the actual train ride out there always seems sooo long. Maybe we just don't get an express but I personally couldn't do that commute everyday. Also, when the weather is warm BIL says there's always so much traffic to get out of Long Beach.
